Condition Monitoring Engineer in London, London, United Kingdom

Job Purpose

The Post Holder is responsible to undertake wheel set gearbox oil sampling analysis, using a spectrometer based in Rail Engineering Workshop (REW), Acton.

He /She will also support the Condition Monitoring Engineer in all routine and non-routine machinery condition monitoring activities (e.g. vibration analysis of motors/fans etc.) in terms of data collection, planning, coordinating and organising.

The purpose of the role is to provide data to the Condition Monitoring Engineer so that unusual wear patterns in safety critical Rolling Stock equipment can be identified in order to prevent a service failure.



Key Accountabilities

Organise and plan wheel set gearbox oil sampling for both routine and non-routine sampling.

Carry out routine and non-routine machinery condition monitoring data collection, using data collectors (little probes and sensors) and condition monitoring, with direction and support from the Condition Monitoring Engineer.

Coordinate with Fleet Planning Managers and Depot Production Teams in prioritising and scheduling to ensure alignment with their maintenance activities.

Carry out trouble-shooting, failure investigation and lube oil sampling using the spectrometer.

Review all exception reports on a daily basis in oil sampling database.

Identify gearboxes/machines with chronic problems and report to Fleet immediately, making necessary recommendations.

Maintain records of all sampling activities in Excel spread sheet.

Raise purchase orders on SAP for all oil sampling consumables.

Ensure that the annual maintenance /calibration of the spectrometer is undertaken.

The Condition Monitoring Technician interacts on a daily basis with all the above interfaces from various locations to request or provide information relating to oil sampling analysis and vibration monitoring.



Knowledge

Working knowledge of Spectrometer to undertake oil sampling.

Detailed knowledge of the SAP system particularly raising Purchase Orders.

Good level of Health and Safety knowledge in a production environment.

ONC in an engineering discipline or equivalent industrial experience



Skills

Skilled at operating a Spectrometer.

Competent IT skills - Good knowledge and practical application of MS Office e.g. Word, Excel and Outlook (Microsoft Project would be desirable).

Excellent planning and organisational skills coupled with the ability to multi-task.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Self-motivated and willing to learn.

* In-depth experience of conducting oil analysis using a Spectrometer.

* Proven experience of planning, organisational skills and attention to detail

* Proven experience of working under pressure and dealing with competing demands.
