JOB TITLE: Site Investigation Engineer
DEPARTMENT: Geotechnical/Structural Investigations Department
LOCATION: Bridgeway House, Nottingham
REPORTING TO: Principal Project Manager/Project Manager
Overall purpose of the role
- Reporting to the Principal Project Manager/Relevant Project Manager , the Engineer is responsible for supporting in the organization, co-ordination and delivery of investigations works.
- The Engineer allocates and reports upon weekly resources required to the relevant manager, ensuring that the team’s is able to deliver against client and contractual demands
Daily Activities
- Plan and co-ordinate geotechnical and ground investigation work/structural investigations work in line with agreed scopes
- Be responsible for the delivery of work and associated client care
- Prepare programme performance data for the Principal Project Manager
- Help developing new customer database in and beyond the rail market
- Undertake Safety Critical duties in line with competencies held and certification gained
- Undertake other duties in accordance with the requirements of the company

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
- All staff share the responsibility for safety and quality. However certain posts assume specific safety responsibilities
- The Engineer has overall responsibility for implementing set safety standards on site based investigations/operations
- Ensuring that all staff work in accordance with approved methodology as set down in statutory / legal documents, ACOP and site specific documents, such as Work Package Plans
- Responsible for the successful delivery of physical works projects and subsequent reporting
- Additional responsibilities may be added from time to time as required for the execution of specific contracts
- All safety and quality responsibilities apply equally to the nominated person or a member of staff temporarily covering the post unless specific advice to the contrary has been issued. In such circumstances it must be recorded how any excluded safety responsibilities are to be properly discharged
- In any actual or perceived conflict between safety and quality responsibilities the safety elements must take priority and be fully discharged
PRIMARY SAFETY RESPONSIBILITY
- Ensure that standards are set and documented for all operations in accordance with Health and Safety legislation and contract requirements
- Ensure all accidents and incidents are properly reported, investigated and that information is passed to the Associate Director and Assurance Department
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Ensure that the ground/structural investigations operatives carries out regular safety inspections of projects as detailed in the general arrangements for health and safety and auditing and monitoring systems
- Assist in the continuous review of applicable and possibly applicable legal, statutory, regulatory and advisory standards and client requests for changes or likely changes. Advising the Associate/Principal Project Manager/PM of any amendments to the safety and quality systems necessary to implement those changes or to improve performance
- Health and safety of all investigation staff
- Ensure that all nominated persons that are appointed for all jobs are competent to undertake them
- Technical Standards of all jobs
- Responsible for successful delivery of all physical works projects
- Responsible for compliance with CDM regulations (where applicable)
STATUTORY SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Compliance with Health and Safety at Work act regulations
- Implementation of risk assessment mitigation control measure where necessary
QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING COURSES
- Degree level education in an associated discipline (preferred) or 10 years + industry experince
- To be determined for specific contracts and sites
- Preferably be CSCS (Construction Skills Certificate Scheme), but not essential
- Demonstrable experience in site based techniques and associated plant
PERSONAL EQUIPMENT
- Minimum PPE required as standard
- To be determined for specific contracts and sites

COMPETENCE
- Professional Competence for the post will be assessed upon appointment and will be based upon the following criteria: -
- Qualification and Training requirements
- Experience in similar positions together with proven ability of involvement and responsibility at principle contractor level within the Rail or diving Industry
- Competence and performance will be re-assessed during the course of the annual safety and training audit
