Engineering Assistant
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Permanent
Pay: £30-40k per annum, dependant on rail specific experience

Job Description
This role is an assistant to the consultant working on the national freight ETCS project. The main tasks will be:
• Review of:
- Design drawings
- Human Factors assessments
- Structural Calculations
- Environmental Assessments
- Hazard Identification Meetings
- Project meeting notes and briefing packs from all levels within the program
- Following reviews of the above the assistant’s role is to brief the consultant with a meaningful summary of the content as well as areas which require their attention.
- Maintenance of a central file store in use by the project
- Assist with the day to day communication with Engineers from multiple rail operators.
- Take notes in Edinburgh based meetings.
- Limited Administrative duties such as:
- Creation of Invoices
- Travel arrangements
- Writing of Agendas for weekly meetings
Location
The normal working location will be Edinburgh with the potential for site visits as the project progresses. The candidate should be willing to travel within the UK including overnight stays during the week where required.
Requirements
The successful candidate must have experience with:
- Maintenance works.
- Use of technical drawings.
- Safety processes
In addition, the following traits are required:

- Capable of working unsupervised
Desirable Experience
In addition, experience in any of the following areas is desirable but not essential:
- Hazard Identification (HazIds)
- Risk Assessment
- Common Safety Method Regulations (CSM)
- Technical Standards for Interoperability as relates to rolling stock (TSIs)
- Process for Approval for Placing into Service (APIS)
- Railway Undertaking Processes for Placing into Use (PIU)
- Railway Locomotive maintenance
Annual Leave
- 35 days annual leave including 2 weeks shutdown for Christmas
