About us

The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) is the independent safety and economic regulator for Britain’s railways, and the independent monitor of Highways England. We are here to ensure the rail and road network operates safely, reliably and efficiently, and provides value for taxpayers and customers – today, and in the future.

The roles

We currently have a number of senior engineering roles in the Engineering and Asset Management team, sitting within the Directorate of Railway Planning and Performance.

A Head of Civil Engineering to manage and lead the civil engineering team, comprising track, lineside vegetation, drainage structures, earthworks, and operational property experts. The successful applicant will be familiar with all these areas, and an expert in at least three.

A Principal Engineer - Electrification & Power to provide expert electrical power
engineering input, support all ORR’s functions as a combined economic and safety regulator, and provide expertise and advice to other engineering disciplines.

Senior Engineers - Civil Engineering to work as part of a team of experts who provide rail civil engineering input encompassing track, structures, tunnels and mining,
earthworks, operational property, drainage and lineside management.

A Senior Engineer, Asset Management to work with Network Rail on its journey to achieving best practice in asset management and to assist Network Rail in improving performance, efficiency and safety.
