Fleet Engineer
With a fleet of 8 000 freight wagons operating across UK and Continental Europe, my client leases wagons to a number of customers in the industry.
Operating from offices located in Europe (home office in UK), the technical department comprising a total of 20 people manages the maintenance of the wagon fleet with a budget of about £25m
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Fleet Engineer reports directly to the Technical Director and is responsible for the safe, efficient and customer focused operation of the fleet.
Self-motivated and self disciplined with a solid understanding of all aspects of the rail industry, including operations, regulations, vehicle systems and maintenance regimes.
Responsibilities cover all aspects of the maintenance and repair process, including quality, and value for money audits of suppliers against specifications and governing regulations.
Faultfinding and investigation of the fleet, down to component level, including compiling reports on findings.
Effectively manage the day to day availability of customer fleets through the efficient management of the approved supplier base.
Liaise with the customer to achieve their requirements to the level of service and availability needed.
Support the team across Europe as necessary.
Willing to question current concepts and methods.
The position requires time away from home with extensive travel across the UK and Europe as necessary, with a flexible approach to the times worked.
On Call responsibility as first point of contact for fleet incidents.
EXPERIENCE NEEDED
Preferably, extensive railway engineering experience in the rolling stock environment, including thorough understanding of vehicle and vehicle sub systems eg braking systems, wheelsets
Rolling stock production background
Thorough understanding of regulatory compliance requirements for the rail industry in both the UK and Europe, including Rail Group Standards, UIC and CGU.

On/Off hire audits of wagons
Writing of maintenance plans
Fault investigation
Work closely with other members of the team

Work closely with industry bodies
QUALIFICATIONS
Completed Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship (preferably HNC/HND)
Eng Tech. (or working towards qualification)
In depth knowledge of rolling stock including fault finding to component level
Current PTS certificate (preferably DP)
Auditor training
PC expertise
Formal management qualification (NEBSM, ILM)
Member of Engineering Institution
Incident investigation
Report writing
