TXM Recruit are working in partnership with a leading train operating company that is based in the north of England. They are currently seeking a Head of Engineering to join their team, you would be responsible for the reliability and safety of the rolling stock as well as maintenance and cleaning schedules. This is an exciting opportunity for a degree qualified rail engineer who has experience of man management coupled with a resilient attitude will be a winning combination in order to succeed with achieving a rewarding job role.
The Opportunity:
You will be responsible for the performance of the fleet in compliance with relevant legislation and industry standards, safety management systems, maintenance and cleaning specification. You will be responsible for the operation of the engineering change process ensuring that all requests for fleet modifications and variation are compliant and undertaken in a controlled manner to ensure the availability of the fleet. You will also be required to lead technical investigations in regards to fleet incidents to ensure that all testing is conducted in a systematic manner in order to determine root cause analysis.
Your responsibilities will include but may not be limited to:
- Lead and manage the engineering team
- Provide engineering support and advice to the Fleet Contracts Manager in managing the provision of fleet maintenance, including assessing and advising of the performance of the fleet.
- Ensure that an audit programme is in place in order to monitor the standard of train maintenance and cleaning before being delivered, including compliance to specifications.
- Monitor and review safety related defects for evidence of adverse of emerging fleet safety issues, compiling national incident reports when necessary.
- Participate with the operation department when looking into investigations into significant fleet delays and poor performance, propose solutions and recommendations to ensure that action plans are completed.
- Lead technical investigations, instructing the parent company to ensure that post incident testing is conducted in order to determine root cause of failure.
- Respond to requests for fleet modification, developing these into a scheme and business case where appropriate.
- Work closely with clients to discuss work variations and modifications to the fleet including any engineering change documentation to ensure this gets authority to be signed off
- Act as the company representative in regard to industry standards
- Responsible for being the on call engineer in case of fleet related accidents
The ideal applicant with have the following experience/skills:
- Degree within a relevant engineering discipline
- Chartered engineer – desirable
- Sound technical knowledge of rolling stock
- Technical knowledge of common railway systems such as AWS, TPWS, GSM-R
- Strong knowledge of engineering principals and experience of engineering practices including manufacturing processes, materials engineering, welding, metrology, tolerances, reclamation processes, NDT
- Strong literacy and ability to read and understand complex technical documentation
- Excellent report writing skills
- Numeracy skills
- Computer literate
- Full UK driving licence
