Engineer (Band 3) Power (LV Systems)
We are looking for a Power Engineer with DC traction design and delivery experience. The role is within the Transport System engineering team delivering new systems and solutions for one of our large infrastructure projects.
Day-to-day, you will develop technical solutions as part of the DC traction design team; the work includes production of DC power designs, drawings, calculations and ongoing continuous improvement of assets.
You will have a good understanding of the design and installation of DC traction power systems. You will be involved with power system upgrade projects at all stages of the lifecycle from inception to final commissioning. You will be involved in the review of power engineering designs prepared by our supplier organisations to ensure they effectively meet our requirements. You will also provide engineering input during the installation and commissioning phases of the project.
It’s important you understand the TfL Vision and strategy as defined in the Mayor for London’s strategy.
Purpose:
Provide professional engineering and/or leadership for all Low Voltage (LV) power system assets across the TfL estate. Responsible for all aspects of LV power systems management and development throughout the asset lifecycle i.e. Specification, Design, Installation/Testing, Maintenance and Decommissioning / Disposal.
Knowledge:
Good knowledge of DC traction equipment, including Electrical Track Equipment (ETE), and associated protection systems
Good knowledge of relevant TfL, National and International Standards
Good knowledge of power system studies including Multi-Train Simulation (MTS), load flow, fault level, transient stability. theoretical reliability, harmonic and protection analysis etc.
Skills:
A competent team player, able to communicate complex technical matters to technical and non-technical stakeholders both verbally and in written form;
Competent in technical document preparation, review and analysis;
Good analytical skills with an ability to objectively investigate problems and propose
solutions while maintaining balanced judgement under pressure;
Proficient in the use of a range of bespoke software packages used for the simulation and design of LV and DC power systems.
Experience:
An experienced power engineer with expertise in LV distribution and substation power supply equipment;
Experience of LV and DC traction power supply system design on railway networks.
