JOB TITLE: Principal Engineer

LOCATION: Bridgeway House, Nottingham
REPORTING TO: Director
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT: Responsible for providing guidance of the technical delivery of all Infrastructure Services work in the disciplines of;
• Structural examination
• Structural Inspection and/or Assessment & Analysis
The role will require the incumbent to interface with junior staff (mentoring and guidance) and reporting to the Directorate.

Role Purpose
This is a key leadership role responsible for providing technical, commercial and managerial guidance to the Infrastructure Services team.
The main elements of the role comprise;
• Responsible for driving high technical standards and excellence across all work delivered from the Structures team.
• Providing commercial guidance of projects undertaken within Infrastructure Services to ensure offers of service, commercial targets and timely invoicing meet the business plan objectives of the team, department and wider business as a whole.
Key Accountabilities
- Responsible for ensuring that staff are tasked against delivering work for which they are trained, competent and legally allowed to undertake.
- To provide timely and accurate information to the Director and Bridgeway Board in relation to the performance of the team.
- Responsible for ensuring that all work delivered from the team has been subject to the appropriate technical inputs at all stages of its lifecycle i.e. from scope through to final approval and issue.
- Identifies strategic recruitment requirements within the team in accordance with company policy and procedure
- Responsible for the development of staff within the Infrastructure Services team and shall develop working practices that encourage professional development against the identified needs of the team and wider business.
Expectations of a BCL Senior Managers / Manager
- Accountable to the Director / Associate Director / Senior Manager / Manager for the technical and financial performance and reporting of their team.
- Familiar with and supportive of company policies and procedures and supports their teams in doing the same.
- Promote the success of their business area both internally and externally.
- Responsible for a defined independent team within a function which may or may not be revenue earning.
- Develops and maintains their team’s delivery programme.
- Provides leadership and direction to their immediate reports.
- Provides tactical technical and business direction to their teams.
- Support other functions at a tactical level.
- Supports the personal development programmes for their team members.
- Considers the impact of their functional operations on the community and environment.
- Acts at all times in a way most likely to promote the success of the business, eg follows dress code, always prepared for meets etc.
