A great opportunity has come up for an experienced Principal Engineer with a Geotechnical background in the railway, to help lead, mentor and grow a consultancy based in Birmingham.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Form teams to deliver projects, ensuring client commitments are met
• Develop staff to ensure the skills are available within the team to meet business objectives
• Supervise training and competency of engineers, graduates and technicians
• Monitor team performance against project quality plans and take necessary corrective action
• Apply procedures and systems to ensure the safety of staff, and others, affected by the operations of the company
• Detailed knowledge of civil design principles and standards
• Detailed knowledge of construction principles and standards
• Good understanding of safety standards
• Incorporated or Chartered Engineer
• Awareness of contract conditions
• Good commercial awareness including programming and delivery to budgets/timescales

Experience acting as Civils project lead on major multidisciplinary projects such as station upgrades, re-signalling schemes or electrification is essential. A track record of growing teams, recruiting and mentoring staff would be advantageous.

Team description (history, size, structure)

The Civils team in our Birmingham office is looking to grow in size to meet the demands of new projects. As the team of nine expands, it will require an experienced leader to provide oversight and guidance. This leader will be accountable for the overall quality of the team’s output and for developing the team to meet new challenges.
