Principal/Senior OLE Engineer in West Midlands, West Midlands, United Kingdom
Based in the Midlands to provide OLE support in the Birmingham area, but also support teams in other parts of the UK. Responsibility for the successful performance of OLE projects.
You will also lead the support of the UK Midlands office for existing and in preparation for new projects. Ideally, commercial and financial responsibility for the delivery of OLE projects on time and to budget. Line management responsibilities as the team in the Midlands grow.
Business development responsibilities (as part of a wider BD plan for the OLE team).You will carry out railway electrification design, checking and approval associated with system, basic, allocation and construction design activities. This will involve a range of design responsibilities specific to each individual project and include various technical support activities for a wide range of railway clientele.
Other responsibilities will include-
- Preparation of design drawings
- OLE layout plans, bonding plans, OLE cross sections, isolation diagrams/instructions
- Preparation of design report and submissions.
- Preparation of technical specifications
- Preparation of technical reports
- Undertaking site surveys
Essential academic, professional qualifications and experience:-
- Chartered Engineer or equivalent or an intent to work towards Chartered Engineer
- Appropriate degree (e.g. BEng in Mechanical or Civil Engineering) or a HNC/HND in HNC /HND in Engineering and a member of a relevant institution (e.g. IMechE).
- Ability to communicate with clarity both verbally and in writing.
- Extensive experience working for an engineering consultancy within the rail sector
Essential competencies / skills:-
- Experience in OLE design throughout project lifecycles.
- Detailed knowledge and experience of Network Rail design approval process at CRE level.
- Technical design experience to carry out supervision and project management of staff.
- Capable of producing and checking a wide variety of OLE design details.
- Understanding of system engineering concepts and safety management.
- Familiar with construction and installation methods.
- Proficient in project planning and costing.
- Able to write and check reports and specifications.
- Good communication and people skills.
- Be willing to travel to other UK offices and overseas when required.
- Proven track record in winning and undertaking fee-earning work.
- A record of building of strong client relationships
- Excellent and effective written and oral communications skills and an ability to relate to others at all levels
- Strong leadership skills
- Decisive, tolerant of ambiguity with high energy levels
Desirable Competencies / Skills:-
- Chartered Engineer or equivalent,
- Proven record of successfully managing the performance of teams and the development of staff in their careers
- A record of ensuring programme performance including commercial, financial and technical delivery.
- Proven business development skills, including the building of strong client relationships
