We are looking for a Principal Telecoms engineer to work in Birmingham for a major design consultancy in Birmingham working on some highly notable rail projects like HS2, Crossrail 2, Northern Powerhouse and Midland West.
Based in our Birmingham office, you will be responsible for the provision of professional telecoms engineering input throughout the complete project lifecycle (GRIP 1-8), with a particular emphasis on GRIP 3, 4 and 5 designs associated with station upgrade and operational telecommunication schemes.

Based in our Birmingham office, you will be responsible for the provision of professional telecoms engineering input throughout the complete project lifecycle (GRIP 1-8), with a particular emphasis on GRIP 3, 4 and 5 designs associated with station upgrade and operational telecommunication schemes.
Responsibilities:
- on a project by project basis, the provision of telecoms engineering input into: feasibility studies/option analysis/appraisal; scheme development; detailed design production.
- You will be accountable for the effective delivery of projects assigned, in particular:
- Delivery of engineering (design and consultancy) specific tasks;
- Leading the technical input on specific projects and guiding others in the delivery of designs to budget, time and quality standards;
- Contribution to the engineering input to multi-disciplinary railway engineering (design and consultancy) projects;
- Observation and application of company quality, health & safety, environmental, commercial and project management disciplines and procedures, as relevant to tasks undertaken.
- Ability to work to timescales and budgets is essential.
- Ideally you will be degree qualified or have a relevant qualification with experience and be chartered or working towards chartership.
- You will have relevant experience in an engineering discipline with strong commercial experience of telecoms design in a railway environment.
- You can demonstrate ability to plan and produce compliant operational and SISS telecoms schemes with minimum supervision. Knowledge of telecoms principles, standards, circuits, components, tools and the implications of working with other disciplines is also required. You will have experience working as part of a team having to be a decision maker.
- Candidates without an engineering degree qualification but with greater experience (possible including institution of railway signal engineers (IRSE) license or ordinary national certificate/higher national certificate (ONC/HNC) in an engineering discipline) will be considered.
