Principal Rail Telecoms Engineer

Circa £60,000 - £65,000 per annum
Due to growing success across a range of industry sectors we are looking for an experienced Telecommunications Engineer. You will be joining a growing Telecommunications team and helping deliver leading edge technology solutions to various areas within rail.
Responsibilities:
As a Telecommunications Engineer you will be responsible for development and publishing of Telecommunications Designs to deliver the Client’s objectives.
The successful candidate will also be required to mentor junior and graduate engineers and work within a Multi-discipline design team.
The right candidate will be well versed and experienced in Telecommunications technology for Infrastructure Projects.
Experience and Qualifications:
MSc
Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or a suitable similar subject
Preferably experience in mentoring.
Must be pursuing Chartered Engineer (CEng) in a relevant engineering discipline (MIET, etc).
Extensive experience, preferably in the UK, in leading, producing and checking telecommunications designs
Underpinning knowledge of network design principles and significant experience working with telecommunications technology in an infrastructure environment and good working knowledge of telecommunications, IT networking technologies and IET wiring Regulations.
As a Telecommunications Engineer you will need to have detailed knowledge on the design and integration of various systems and subsystems, these will include but not limited to;
Building network infrastructure –
Structured Cabling infrastructure – Copper and fibre optic
Multiprotocol Label Switching Networks (MPLS)
Internet Protocol Closed Circuit Television (IP-CCTV) Systems
EN54 Life Safety Public Address and Voice Alarm Systems
Integrated Station / Building Management Systems
Customer Information Systems Access Control Systems
Multi-mode Intruder Detection Systems
Wireless Network Architecture
SCADA infrastructure and operations
Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP)
Mobile telephony (GSM/Long Term Evolution (LTE) Radio) propagation modelling, base station configuration, bandwidth management.
Highway tunnel communications infrastructure (wireless and fixed)
Rail trackside equipment and infrastructure installation and operation
Fixed Telecommunications Network (FTN and FTNx)
Radio systems in UK Rail operations (GSM-R primarily)
Experience in the preparation of conceptual reports, telecommunications scheme designs, project documentation, specifications, contract schedules, implementation/construction plans and costings to client requirements.
Previous experience in developing, analysing, assessing and implementation of Network Bandwidth allocation for MPLS converged networks
Provision of specialist technical support and assistance to railway projects, and management of allocated junior support staff.
Expert use of telecommunications design packages
Previous experience as Telecommunications CRE, Checker or Project Engineer on Network Rail projects.
Required Office Software: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Outlook
At least one of the following:
Bentley Microstation
Autodesk AutoCAD
Broad knowledge of telecom network civil construction methods.
Familiarity with health & safety and systems engineering/design assurance requirements.
