Role: Senior Structural Engineer

I am looking to place a Senior Structural Design Engineer with 6+ years experience in an engineering consultancys Leeds office. The firm handles a range of new-build, refurbishment and ecofurbishment projects across a range of sectors including, but not limited to, residential, laboratories, hospitals, shopping centres, and more. The firm operates across projects of a smaller-scale through to high-rise multi-storey design projects.

Your role will cover design of new building structures as well as assessment of existing buildings for refurbishment projects. Medium and high-rise buildings feature as part of this role, so some previous experience of multi-storey design projects is preferable. Most projects are conducted to Eurocode / BS equivalent standards, so you will need to be able to utilise relevant codes for the four common design materials (RC, steel, masonry, concrete) and composite structures.

Candidates are expected to have relevant industry experience across a range of structural design projects, with the expectation that they will be given the opportunity to run their own projects within 12-18 months, sooner for candidates who are already used to it. The firm need someone who is confident in their technical design abilities and can take projects through concept/scheme design, detailed design and eventual construction where required.

The firm has an accredited ICE training program and multiple mentors who can help candidates reach Chartered Engineer status, for those that have not yet reached that level. Candidates may have taken a slightly different route and could be Incorporated already or have relevant industry experience and focused more on their work instead of striving to reach Chartered status quickly, but all suitable candidates will likely have 6 years experience, or more.

The firm has heavily invested in BIM technology and people who join the firm are encouraged to develop their 3D modelling capabilities in a range of settings via experts who have been using the software since its first release. Ideally, you will already have some experience of Tekla TEDDS / Tekla Structural Designer, CSC Fastrak, and other software packages.

Job Requirements:

• Relevant education in Structural Engineering
• 6+ years structural design experience
• Experience of high-rise / multi-storey design projects
• Multiple sectors experience residential, commercial, industrial, education, etc
• Working towards Chartered Engineer status (desirable)
• Design in Steel, RC, masonry, timber to relevant Eurocodes / British Standards
• Desire/ability to run own structural design projects
