Ford & Stanley - The Rail Recruitment Specialists are working closely with a leading railway engineering company who complete rolling stock repair and overhaul work at their historic site in Doncaster. We are searching for an experienced Stress Engineer who will provide engineering expertise in relation to the refurbishment and maintenance of rolling stock projects.
This role provides a challenging, varied workload allowing the ideal candidate to demonstrate their technical capability in an Engineering setting. You will have the chance to work closely on some of the most high profile projects in the industry ensuring successful project delivery.
Key responsibilities
* Finite Element Analysis of structures and components using ANSYS Workbench
* Traditional hand calculations
* Formal report writing
* Represent the client on structural issues both internally and externally
* Maintain structural integrity of designs, securing liability
* Participate in design reviews
* Provide formal evidence for structural submissions to Independent Certification Bodies
* Improvement of existing processes and implementation of new ones to the advancement of the business
* Liaise with external FEA suppliers
* Investigation and resolution of in-service problems
* Where required, and competence permits, you may be required to do duties beyond those of your immediate role to support business goals and objectives
Skills, experience and qualifications
* An experienced Structural Engineer
* They should be familiar with the use of ANSYS Mechanical or other related software
* Knowledge and experience of Mathcad is highly desirable
* Knowledge of BS7608 is essential and knowledge of BS8118 and/or Eurocode 3 part 1-9 is desirable
* Knowledge of railway rolling stock is desirable but not essential, as relevant training can be provided
The applicant should be an adept problem solver capable of taking failed physical specimens and deducing, through either numerical or analytical methods, the mode of failure and put forward a resolution method.
