Contract
Purpose:
Provide professional engineering and EMC engineering management to technical change projects and activities through the provision of technical support, including process, tools and resources.
Control EMC risks to the business and ensure appropriate application of assurance.
Special Accountabilities:
Ensure compliance to EMC legislation and regulations.
Support and deliver corporate initiatives to improve Engineering Capability in relation to EMC engineering.
Provide guidance to programmes and projects in respect of EMC risk and cost effective risk mitigation actions and solutions.
Support specific agreed elements of delivery for multiple programmes and projects.
Ensure appropriate and efficient levels of EMC activity and assurance are undertaken and provided by programmes and projects according to the technical risk.
Ensure EMC risks from 3rd party operations are controlled.
Senior Engineer
Knowledge:
Good record of continuing professional development and contribution to the knowledge base of the profession
A detailed knowledge of EMC engineering management and its application
Good commercial awareness of developments in EMC engineering management and best practices.
Knowledge of relevant TfL, British and International standards
Knowledge of the TfL business, its obligations and priorities
Knowledge of engineering safety management and its application within transportation
A detailed knowledge of EMC legislation
A detailed knowledge of urban and metro railway EMC threats and victims
An understanding of mainline railway power systems
A good knowledge of EMC testing
A good knowledge of CENELEC Standards EN50126, EN50128 and EN50129
An understanding of public and private radio based communication systems applied to metro railways
A clear knowledge of the relevant industry markets.
An understanding of the principles of Railway Operational Processes.
Skills:
Ability to represent TfL's interests with external parties e.g. transportation sector,
standards bodies, regulators
High level of integrity
Highly developed ability to act on own initiative
Highly motivated, with a real passion for personal development
Ability to present complex EMC design issues to non-engineers.
Ability to visualise trade-offs between various ways of approaching asset designs and brokering compromises which allow system integration.
Ability to balance academic engineering and practical delivery for EMC application and approach.
Experience:
Extensive experience of EMC engineering and its practical application to high value
programmes
Extensive experience of personal responsibility for providing professional engineering support to major/ projects and maintenance organisation(s), where there are complex interfaces
Experience of developing and managing EMC controls in operational railways and multidisciplinary railway upgrade projects, or in any other safety critical industry.
