Technical Assistant – Performance Engineer in London, Wimbledon Train Care Depot, United Kingdom
South Western Railway has some of the busiest routes in the country, operating around 1700 services each weekday, from London Waterloo running through south-west London to an area stretching from Portsmouth to Exeter, and delivering 230 million passenger-journeys each year. We are making major investments right across our network, with plans in place to be running almost 1800 services each day.
To support this we are now looking for a Technical Assistant – Performance Engineer to be responsible for providing an effective service for technical, quality and safety matters to the Fleet Manager, Technical Performance Manager and depot management team in Wimbledon.
In this role you will:
• Work to laid down specifications and depot quality systems/working instructions both Fleet Engineering and local.
• Carry out train related audits/in process checks and formulate action plans.
• Investigate safety critical rolling stock incidents and compile relevant formal reports. Make recommendations to increase reliability on individual and trend failures.
• Analyse downloads to supplement complex fault finding.
• Supply modifications or campaign component change support to the depot and ROSCOs.
• Produce technical briefs and work instructions for train related activities.
• Investigate train failures to support performance PPM growth and delay minute appropriation.
• Ensure compliance with BS EN 9001: 2000 Quality Management System and BS EN 9001: 2004 Environmental Management System.
We are looking for an engineering rail professional with a range of skills and experience, including:
• Appropriate electrical/mechanical engineering qualification.
• At least three years’ experience working in a rolling stock depot, preferably as an E.M.O. Technician and apprentice trained in a related industry.
• Understanding of rolling stock safety legislation and quality procedures.
• Safety critical decision making on movement in service of rolling stock.
• Thorough knowledge of engineering drawings and electrical/pneumatic diagrams.
• A pro-active and rigorous approach to safety issues and environmental incidents.
• Good report writing, numerical and IT skills.
• Maintaining documentation and quality records in accordance with quality procedures.
You will work predominantly office hours, on average 37 hours per week, however flexibility is required to accommodate training on nights and weekends.
