Traction Power Engineer
Purpose of the Job
Provide support in managing the execution of the Traction Power engineering works safely, to the Employer’s requirements, within budget and to schedule.
Principal Accountabilities
To support the Employer to:
- Review the Traction Power technical Works Information including preparing any adaptation of the specifications and drawings to support the tender programme
- Answering technical questions and clarifications raised by the Traction Power tenders
- Participate in the technical evaluation of the Traction Power tenders
- Manage engineering activities of the Traction Power Design and Build Contractor throughout the phases to commissioning and handover ensuring works are undertaken safely to quality, within budget and to schedule
- Check the Traction Power technical interfaces to ensure integration with NR and NG
- Check the Traction Power technical interfaces to ensure integration with other Employer’s interfacing contractor works
- Review traction power modelling and simulations produced by the Contractor
- Review technical assurance produced by the Contractor and certification in accordance with the Technical Assurance Plan
- Check that the Traction Power technical interfaces to ensure integration with interfacing infrastructures including those NR and NG.
- Review all aspects of the Traction Power works discipline
- Review the production of the safety justification by the Contractor
- Prepare periodic reports on Traction Power works
- Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected in the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working to the Target Zero principles.
- Co-operate in all matters relating to health and safety, including following safe working procedures at all times

To support the Employer to:
- Check that the Traction Power system complies with Employer’s Requirements
- Check the integration of the Traction Power system with the railway infrastructure
- Check the integration of the Traction Power system with Network Rail
- Check programme constraints
Person Specification
- Extensive work experience (engineering, construction and testing) in Power systems, including Traction Power System.
- Excellent engineering knowledge in Power systems, including Traction Power System
- Ability to review delivery of Traction Power works to ensure quality, budget and schedule requirements
- Good communications skills
- Have an excellent knowledge of railway regulations and standards
- Familiar with railway operational requirements
