Traction & Rolling Stock Systems Engineer
Role Definition
Working as part of a close-knit team the Systems Engineer will have an area of specialism and a wide knowledge of our industry especially regarding train control systems. The Systems Engineer will play an important role in Customer Requirements Management, management of the technical design risk, the definition of the System and Sub-system Design, and subsequent production of detailed Product Requirements for Project Teams to implement.
Key Accountabilities
· Will provide support in the management of the technical interfaces between the ETCS system, the Train Design Authority and the internal and external Design Teams ensuring that the technical solutions meet the operational and performance requirements.
· Will provide support in the production and update of system engineering documentation.
· Will review technical compliance documentation deliverables produced by the design teams.
· Will work closely with the engineering team members in the UK and Germany.
Specific Skills/Tasks
Essential:
- Customer Requirements Elicitation Capture and Analysis.
- System Requirements Elicitation and Specification.
- System Design Analysis and Specification.
- Product Requirements Specification.
- Management of Interface Risk.
- Support the technical Management of the Train Design Authority & internal and external Design teams to achieve coherent design solutions.
- Support the ownership of all Technical Interfaces.
- Product Design Analysis and Specification.
- Integration of component subsystems into a single system.
- Working within a Configuration Control system (including raising and applying Change Requests etc.).
- In depth knowledge of depot procedures and site safety.
- An understanding of the approvals process required to modify a train and bring it back into service.
- Read and review requirements, creating written comments and attending reviews as required.
- Review engineering data for completeness and consistency.
- Review product installation designs to ensure adherence to guidelines and installation constraints
- Demonstrates customer focus in all work carried out.
- Experience of working to industry quality and safety standards.
- Strong and effective communicator at all levels within the business and in front of new and existing customers.
Qualifications:
· Educated to degree level (or equivalent experience) in an engineering, scientific or numerate discipline.
Desirable:
- Specific knowledge of implementing ETCS and/or CBTC systems
- Proven track record in working in major Sub-contract environments.
