In this role as the External Communications Business Partner, you will develop and deliver an external communications campaign strategy and implementation programme through:
- Strategic business partnering
- Campaign planning and delivery
- Message development & Storytelling.
As the External Communications Business Partner you will be expected to run all aspects of external communications within Ground Transportation Systems (GTS), reporting to the Head of External Communications. This is a strategic business partnering role where you will story tell through engaging and relevant communications campaigns, demonstrating to your stakeholders how you are adding value in this pivotal position.
You will work with the GTS VP, Sales Lead and Sector Leads, developing a rolling annual external communications strategy. The focus for this role is on campaigns that support domestic and export sales and business development, with an emphasis on must win contracts as well as building profile in new markets to support future growth.
Responsibilities:
- To tell the story of a global and complex technology business through timely, consistent and innovative external communication to raise the profile and reputation of Thales in the UK and overseas
- To promote the Thales contribution to the Prosperity Agenda messaging to tell the story of our positive impact to the UK economy through our programmes and national influence
- The interface with key Thales stakeholders media relations (UK & Group), Government Relations, Policy & International Relations to have one proactive, aligned and consistent external approach to our domestic and export profile
- To lead and champion the UK external communications strategy at a business partner level to advise business leads on best practice for external communications.
- To embed and grow a measurable comms value-add based on:
- Developing an omni-channel market focused communications campaign
- Developing an effective content strategy using knowledge of SEO, Inbound marketing and outreach techniques to drive brand engagement.
- Delivering impactful off-line tactics to support business winning through more efficient exhibitions & events, transitioning to customer-focussed technodays and closed events (domestic & export)
- Building relationships with media, customers & influencers
- Demonstrating measurable success through setting clear goals, measuring and dashboard reporting.
Day to day role:
- Content generation media relations, social media, writing and commissioning online off-diary features and profiles
- Enforces standards to ensure consistent and positive presentation of the Thales image to targeted audiences.
- Oversees storyboarding tone theme and messaging. Contributes to the development of editorial standards and editorial calendar.
- Crisis communications - Provides advice and counsel to management in the event of an incident or issue
- Develops and proactively maintains effective relationships with Tier 2 (trade) and Tier 3 (regional) media and government stakeholders
- Partnering and supporting the Head of External Communications in developing relationships and news content with Tier 1 media (National broadcast and print)
- Develops key messages, determines appropriate media, makes writing assignments edits for consistency across media and determines appropriate approval levels.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and feedback to Thales officials being interviewed by the media.
- Have the ability to turn complex technology and information into concise, interesting copy for various channels aligned to keyword and SEO strategy
- Participates in efforts to integrate various communication plans across functions business units and/or across the enterprise.- one team approach
- Event management - to work as part of a team and with other business stakeholders (sales, marketing) to manage the effective UK and international exhibitions drumbeat
- Membership of CIPR and/or appropriate equivalent such as IABC or NCTJ.
Skills and Experience:
- Strong stakeholder partnering skills in a complex organisation
- Previous experience of developing compelling omni-channel market focused communications campaign that are aligned to business strategies
- Inbound and outbound communications strategies
- Content marketing to build brand awareness and lead generation
- Experience of project managing campaigns through using project management and financial tools
- Prior experience of budget management techniques
- Strong evidence of providing strategic business partnering to senior stakeholders
- Excellent commercial acumen with the ability to translate internal values and external market information into campaigns that are innovative.

- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Online Tools such as (or similar to) Asana, Hootsuite, Gorkana, Google Analytics.
