Position: Assurance Manager (Railway Sector)

Location: Birmingham based (With Travel to London)

Target: Experienced Assurance Manager with Technical Assurance background Ideally in Civil Engineering.

My client is responsible for delivering one of the UK'S largest and most expensive infrastructure projects ever undertaken. This is a high profile project, and role and they are looking for suitable applicants at the top of their game that can delivery at every level.

My client is now looking for an Assurance Manager who will be part of the team responsible for the assurance of technical development and design. This assurance activity draws on the technical and production assurance outputs and the supporting change processes.

JOB PURPOSE:

You will be part of the team that lead the setting of the technical assurance regime, setting processes for its application and reporting of progress. The team assure the day to day application of key assurance activity particularly change and capturing of key development decisions. The team aligns the assurance activity to the objectives and timescales of the project.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Develop assurance plans and identify resources to support the successful implementation of these plans for the Technical Directorate.

Liaise with the wider HS2 Ltd assurance activity and support the delivery of an efficient and effective technical assurance regime.

Undertake assurance activity including supporting assurance reviews, collating evidence and providing progress reports to ensure correctly carried out to support stage gates.

Support key governance and assurance meetings as required by the technical directorate.

Engage with the Technical and Delivery teams to define the assurance criteria for design approval, demonstration of capability, acceptance of equipment and operability as appropriate.

Confirm design and assurance requirements with third parties to ensure consistency and compliance.

Maintain procedures, competence levels and systems order to ensure a robust approach to Assurance management within the project.

Enable the integration of the assurance systems with other elements of the HS2 BIM and IM activity.

REQUIRED CRITERIA/ Essential Skills:

Qualified to degree/HND Level (or similar) in relevant subject

Demonstrable ability in client management of major projects and working with sponsors, regulatory bodies and other major stakeholders

Appropriate qualification in assurance management

Demonstrable ability to deliver work under pressure and to tight deadlines

Demonstrable expertise in the use and application of assurance regimes in major projects

Proven track record in the validation of major schemes, risk management and reporting

Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills.

Desirable Skills

Proven track record of working with Sponsors, Stakeholders, Engineers and Project delivery teams

Competent understanding of common contract management frameworks.

Chartered Engineer, or in the process of obtaining qualifications in an appropriate discipline.

Competent understanding of Systems Engineering principles and application

Knowledge of the rail, construction and utility industries including their requirement and assurance needs

Civil Design and Construction knowledge and the application of CDM activity

Demonstrable expertise in qualitative schedule risk assessment.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION:

Excellent inter-personal skills with proven ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplined management team.

Proven ability to work without day to day supervision

Self-motivated and proactive, and dynamic

Excellent written and oral presentation and communication skills.

Proven ability to organise and plan in order to meet project deadlines

Willingness to travel to meetings outside the normal place of work

The individual should be willing to work flexible hours in order to meet project deadlines.

Please note: - Although the role is primarily based in Birmingham there may be some travel required to meet with design consultants and to support the consultation process.
