Purpose of the Job
Support the Project Construction Manager in taking responsibility for progress, cost, quality, and HSE at site level.
Principal Accountabilities
- To be based predominately on site, often covering out of core hours working.
- When there is weekend working the superintendent will be expected to cover some night shifts.
- Required to work core hours to be agreed locally depending on balance outstanding and the candidate requirements.
- Monitors, records and reports site progress, incidents, delays, resources and influences on progress e.g. weather.
- Monitors and records quality and HS&E issues on site.
- Keeps Construction Managers and Site Managers informed of site progress and performance recording inefficient working, standing plant etc. with a view on possible disallowed costs.
- Completes Daily Site Reports for Site Managers review.
- Keeps Project Field Engineers and Field Engineers informed of site quality performance.
- Supports the Site Managers and the Contract Administrators with the as built programme.
- Reviews works against contractor construction and quality documents.
- Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected in the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working to Target Zero principles.
- Cooperate in all matters relating to health and safety, including following safe working procedures at all times.

Main challenges of the job
Monitoring (and intervening where necessary) health, safety, quality and environmental performance.
- Recording contractor performance against planned including resources used.
- Identifying areas for performance improvement in contractor delivery.
Person Specification
- Previous experience in heavy civils, rail, urban sites, LU/NR interface projects.
- IT literate including MS Office Word and Outlook.
- Reliability and prepared to work out of core hours (core hours are Monday to Friday 08:00-18:00, and Saturday 08:00-13:00).
- Knowledge and experience of site-based ES&H and quality processes and procedures.
