Due to continued expansion, Total Rail Solutions are looking to appoint a Graduate / Assistant Quantity Surveyor
The role and responsibilities
The role of Graduate/Assistant Quantity Surveyor is to assist in administration and management of costs and contracts relating to projects. The role may involve all aspects of work from the initial tender to final account and close out, seeking to minimise the costs and enhance value for money whilst achieving the required standards and quality. This role will work under the close direction and supervision of a senior manager.
This new role will provide personal scope to develop your existing skills and knowledge within the quantity surveying field specific to the civils / rail sector that will include:-
• Preparing enquiries, analyse tenders, assist in negotiating and managing allocated accounts including orders, payment and final accounts and close outs in accordance with customer or company procedures.
• Undertake record keeping including, but not limited to, the preparation of meeting packs, meeting invites and taking meeting minutes.
• Monitoring, reviewing, analysing and reporting on all TRS contract costs for allocated projects;
• Assist with the preparation of client applications for payment and associated reporting;
• Assist with preparation of comparing actual costs against planned programme, report and investigate variances;
• Attend client meetings;
• Preparation of schedule of rates based quotations;
• Assist in the production of accurate cost estimates;
• Assist in variations and working on claim assessments;
Skills, Qualification and Experience
You will take a pro-active approach to your workload and have experience of working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines with a minimum level of supervision. Strong analytic skills, problem solving and communication skills being able to interact with people at all levels will be just some of your personal qualities that you would bring to this role.
Furthermore, you will also have the following experience/ skills set:-
• A measured and well organised approach to your work;
• Confident communication skills both in writing and in internal and external correspondence;
• Competent users of Microsoft Word, Excel and power point;
• A positive “can do” approach to challenges and problems;
• Ability to prioritise a changing workload in light of client needs and project changes
Ideally you will be working towards a recognised Quantity Surveying qualification or be, or have studied for, an HNC / HND or have gained relevant experience. Whilst not essential, experience of working within the rail industry would be a distinct advantage.
