Your new role
We are currently looking for an experienced LOPs Operator to join our Stoke Gifford Train Maintenance Centre. This is a permanent position, working a day and night shift roster.
In this exciting new role you will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement of all rolling stock in the train maintenance facility in accordance with the berthing plan.
Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:
- Imbedded into the maintenance shift, responsible for all train movements within the TMC (Train Maintenance Centre).
- Operation of the LOPs system in accordance with the training provided including ongoing safety critical assessment and in accordance with the competency management system.
- In partnership with the maintenance team and planning cell ensure all trains are berthed in accordance with the berthing plan.
- Support the Maintenance Team Leader and Duty Shift Manage to enable them to continually deliver a safe, reliable passenger service to time table.
- Responsible for all safety critical communication with the Network Rail signal box
- Responsible for all safety critical communication with the Network Rail ECO (Electrical Control Officer)
- Safe and efficient communication with main line and TMC drivers.
- Responsible for accepting all returning train from Network Rail infrastructure onto the TMC including direct contact with the main line driver and signal man.
- Depart the passenger servicing to time table including communication with the main line drivers and recording all departure times in the LOPs operators’ log.
- Communication with the relevant signal box and operation of the train describer panel.
- Communication with the Servicing Team Leading to ensure trains are berthed and departed from the servicing spine in a safely and efficiently as required by the Servicing team leader.
- Liaise with the Cleaning team leader to ensure all trains are cleaned in accordance with the cleaning plan.
- Recording all train movement in the LOPs operators log.
- Reporting of any fault with regards to the LOPs system, train describer, CCTV and radio systems.
- Development of degraded mode working including manual points operation and monitoring of the LOPs system UPS (uninterrupted Power Supply)
- Tracking all movement with in the TMC including arriving and departing trains using the TMC CCVT system.
- Responsible for ensuring the TMC radio system is function and that all voice communication is being recorded correctly.
- Updating the TMC SOROS system to enable the relevant staff to see where train have been stabled.
- Use the Network Rail I.T. system as necessary including integrally, Genius, Trust, P2,
- Develop professionally and support good working relationships
- Learn new skills in accordance with Hitachi’s business demands as required
- Assist as required by instruction of the Duty Shift Manager and Team Leader
Qualifications
Essential
- Sound knowledge of railway operations
- Technical understanding of traction and rolling stock
- Leadership and management experience
Qualifications
- Engineering HNC, NVQ level 3 or equivalent qualification would be advantage
- Vocational engineering qualifications and experience would be advantage
- Management training qualifications or equivalent experience
Behavioural
- Sound knowledge of, and compliance to rules and regulations
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Able to represent Hitachi in a professional manner at all times
- Good team worker and able to build relationship with other stakeholders
- Capably of working in stressful environments for long periods of time
Desirable
Licences / Competencies
- Intermediate IT skills – typically Word, Excel, Equinox
- Previous experience of using Genius, Trust, P2, is desirable but not essential
- Previous experience of working in operational railway control rooms would be advantageous
