Purpose of the Job
The purpose of this senior leadership role is to provide a renewed focus, urgency and oversight of the entire Mechanical and Electrical work scope, within the C610 demise. This includes, but is not limited to, the installation, test and commissioning of: tunnel cable management systems, cables & their termination, cross-passage doors, fire systems & fire mains, drainage systems, risers & pumps, lighting systems, LV systems, and emergency evacuation walkways.
By working closely with the C610 Main Contractor’s M&E organisation, and associated CRL and other third-party stakeholders, this individual will be responsible for:
- reviewing, analysing, challenging and improving M&E progress & performance
- b) forcing the pace, by setting clear goals, instigating improvement programmes and tapping into existing good practice.

- working with CRL to identify & facilitate the resolution of the many interfaces issues.

Principal Accountabilities
- Accountable for the safe, timely delivery of all C610 M&E scope, to budget.
- Lead frequent reviews to assess and drive progress and performance, with an absolute focus on Quantities to Go, install rates and forecast completion dates.
- Manage work within the established budget and MOHS schedule.
- Monitor and control all M&E contractual commitments to ensure that work is being performed in accordance with the specifications, drawings and terms of the contract.
- Ensure M&E scope, design basis and objectives are defined and prioritised, best practices/lessons learned reviewed, detailed work plans, schedules, budgets and procedures are established. Ensure processes are streamlined and fit-for-purpose.
- Coordinate interfaces with adjacent and/or follow-on contracts or other systems.
- Address interests of stakeholders or other interested third parties in their allocated area of responsibility.
- Co-operate with the client in all matters relating to health and safety, including following safe working procedures at all times.
- Act as a role model for the client’s vision and values, behaving in ways that are in alignment with the client’s Ways of Working. Encourage and support others to do so too.
- Promote equality in the workplace and adopt appropriate behaviour when interacting with colleagues.
- Take necessary care to properly protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of corporate information from unauthorised disclosure, modification or destruction. Never knowingly put the client’s information or information systems at risk.
- To be responsible for the management of Health and Safety for direct reports.
Main challenges of the job
- Managing and driving the contractor to perform in accordance with the requirements of the contract, including safety, schedule, cost, self-assured quality employee relations etc.
- Managing and collaborating with the contractor to deliver the Systemwide Mainworks safely, to the prescribed quality to schedule and within budget.
- Facilitating and coordinating the interfaces between the Contractor, client and all other third parties and stakeholders.
- Recovering programs by doing things differently.
- Managing a substantial and geographically diverse workforce, stretching from Paddington through central London to Plumstead in the East.
- Driving a consistent culture across the entire team, and delivering to schedule and budget within a very demanding and challenging environment .
Person Specification
- Strong, proven leadership skills and experience of managing substantial, interdisciplinary teams, coupled with a proven reputation within the M&E delivery industry.
- Substantive knowledge of all phases of construction operations relating to field activities, construction technologies and jobsite management.
- Experience with managing and influencing large teams, including craft in the field.
- In depth practical knowledge and experience with scope definition, resource loaded schedules, progress and performance curves, earned value and metrics.
- Experience with cost management, trend programs and their linkage to change control.
- Member of a relevant professional institution. Chartered Engineer preferred.
- University degree in an engineering or construction related subject.
- Proven track record of delivering M&E programmes in excess of £50M.
- Experience working within the rail industry sector.
- Proven ability to develop, nurture, influence and manage complex and demanding stakeholders. Evidence of personable and effective leadership style.
- Technical familiarity throughout the delivery construction project lifecycle.
- Practical working knowledge of the NEC3 form of contract.
