My client, a global leading engineering and technology services organisation, is currently looking for a tactical and organised Operational Buyer to assist the procurement team in all supporting tasks for their manufacturing operations. The role is an initial 3-Month contract.
The successful candidate will continually seek to improve efficiency with best practice procurement techniques. Your primary responsibilities will be:
- Proactive supplier communication and strong relationship building to ensure on time supply of components.
- Manage the supplier base and supplier relationships to ensure contract compliance and achieve strengthened purchasing relationships with existing suppliers.
- Achieve department targets with efficient costs savings.
- Actively support the Commodity Managers with tactical and transactional requirements.
- Identify suitable opportunities to exclude non-value-added costs/tasks within the procurement environment.
- Play an active and supportive role in multi-disciplined teams for the procurement of components for onboarding new projects.
- Responsible for a significant spend.
- Working with internal stakeholders.
- Co-ordinate, monitor and report upon supplier performance.
- Pro-active supplier order book management for the team in order to support the set performance metrics.
- Prepare, issue and review supplier RFQ's, recommending preferred options on complex design and build products, following through to release of the purchase order.
- Negotiate the purchase of materials and equipment required by the company ensuring that these meet specifications and can be delivered at the correct time at the most favourable prices.
- Monitor purchase orders to ensure that these are modified to meet changes in requirements.
What you will bring:
- Ability to work well within an already established group of professionals.
- CIPS qualified/part qualified.
- 2 years’ experience within a procurement environment.
- Self-motivated attitude with a flexible approach.
- Ability to prioritise and balance the teams’ workload.
- Demonstrate good commercial acumen and understand purchasing principles.
- Ability to negotiate and influence to build supplier partnerships.
- Fluent communications skills, both verbal and written, along with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail
- Highly numerate and PC literate
- Experience of MRP/ERP system and Microsoft Excel
Desirable Requirements:
- A Level/HNC or higher in a relevant qualification, e.g. Business Studies.
- Previous experience within a complex manufacturing processing environment.
- Knowledge of sales, design and engineering processes.
