Rail Safety and Control System Design Engineer
Location: Colchester, Essex (commutable from Ipswich, Cambridge, Chelmsford and London)
Salary: Competitive, Depending on experience

FirstClass Safety & Control is a growing business and we are looking to expand our highly skilled engineering team with forward-thinking Rail Safety & Control System Design Engineers.

The Role will include:

• Developing complex designs and detailed layouts for safety / control systems using CAD
• PLC Programming – writing & developing code – Allen Bradley, Rockwell
• Signalling Design using a SCADA platform
• Collating project specifications and clarifying project requirements
• Working on both new and existing Depot Schemes to develop detailed designs
• Developing functional design specifications for new projects
• Working with SCADA systems and HMi’s
• Perform testing & validation of hardware/software systems
• Optimising design via simulations, testing & development
• Participate in technical meetings with customers/stakeholders
• Participating in IDC/IDR/HAZOP/HAZID meetings throughout the design process
• On site commissioning of new systems at customer facilities in the UK and overseas
• Material selection and integration
• Supplier and Subcontractor management

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

• Experienced in PLC programming – Allen Bradley
• Previously have worked with systems design, development & commissioning
• Software & hardware development experience
• Degree in Control, Automation or Electrical Engineering is preferred
• PLC / SCADA system design & development, including safety
• Industrial communications experience – ProfiBus, Ethernet, DeviceNet
• Rail Signalling experience advantageous, especially if you can develop SCADA
• Experience with Emulation & Simulation software an advantage
• CAD Experience – ideally Autocad
• Production of RAM Documentation for SIL rated Safety Systems
• Happy doing hands-on safety / control systems commissioning at customer sites
• Commercial awareness
• Strong & effective communicator
• Willing to travel throughout the UK & overseas if needed
• Working as a member of a team or alone as required.
