Electrical Design Engineer in Waterloo, London, London, United Kingdom

Crewit Resourcing are the recruitment partner for a specialist rail and highways design consultancy based in London. We are currently recruiting for a number of Electrical Design Engineers ranging from Assistant to Senior to work out of our Waterloo office.

Our Design Consultancy provide a multi-disciplinary design service to the Rail and Highway infrastructure sectors, in addition to commercial and private urban development.

Our highly experienced staff come from a variety of engineering backgrounds in order to service projects in the Civil Engineering and Building sectors

Responsibilities are as follows:

• Undertaking electrical surveys, predominantly in the Rail sector;
• Production of electrical designs, predominantly in the Rail sector;
• Support the preparation of bids and estimates;
• Support the production of internal technical standards;
• Open up to short-term utilisation by the Civil and Surveying teams, if, and when, required;
• Support the on-the-job training and mentoring of junior staff.

Preferred Experience: Experience of delivery of design services to budget, whilst managing trade-offs between technical and socio-economic factors, on multi-disciplinary projects.

Competent in the following:
• The design of LV electrical systems: railway trackside, within railway stations, and other built environments (e.g. points heating, 650V signalling power, UPS, power distribution, services, lighting, and lightning protection);
• Design of HV power distribution systems: substations, feeder stations, HV feeder cables, and associated SCADA;
• Design of earthing and bonding systems;
• Operation of electrical systems modelling software for design production/ verification (e.g. ETAP, Amtech, Hevacomp, DIALux packages, etc.);
• Design of cable management systems (CMS) including trunking, tray and conduits and the preparation of CMS sizing calculations;
• Presentation of design schematic and 2D layout drawings;
• Operation of Microsoft Office suite;
• Excellent working knowledge of Network Rail, London Underground, British and International standards governing designs of electrical systems (especially in the Rail sector);
• Understanding of UK government legislation, CDM responsibilities, and an ability recognise and manage design risks;
• Multi-disciplinary design interface management.

Qualifications:

Chartered Engineer (CEng.); or holding qualifications and experience satisfying the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UKSPEC) at CEng. level; or other equivalent qualifications acceptable under theProfessional Qualifications Directive. Impending CEng. applicants will also be considered.

Requirements:
• Knowledge of HV electrical systems and design;
• Knowledge of SCADA systems and design (desirable);
• Knowledge of LV electrical systems and design (including control, power, UPS, lighting, and lightning protection);
• Knowledge of earthing systems and design;
• Knowledge of electrical modelling packages (ETAP, Amtech, and DIALux);
• Knowledge of requirements of Network Rail standards;
• Knowledge of requirements of London Underground standards (desirable);
• Commercial awareness;
• Competent in MS Office and Microstation CAD suites;
• Good verbal and written communication skills, with ability to communicate complex technical matters;
• Driving licence (desirable).
