What is the purpose of this role?

To develop and maintain a street lighting policy and develop a master plan and strategy to ensure that the service is delivered in accordance with that policy.

What will this role involve?

• Provide regular progress reports on street lighting related matters both internally and externally through both reports and presentations
• Assist in the scope and preparation of tender documents
• Carry out gap analysis to identify any gaps in the training and competencies of the street lighting client team and contractors
• Ensure that the street lighting inventory is collected accurately and in accordance with good industry practice
• Advise on lighting design standards and codes of practice
• Undertake site surveys
• Prepare lighting impact assessment reports, conceptual designs and feasibility studies
• Prepare estimates, specifications and contract documents
• Ensure continuous awareness of client requirements and potential changes to projects and advise the Project Manager in regards to change control and implications
• Liaise with customers, professional organisations, contractors, sub-consultants and other design teams on design, cost and project programme requirements
• Ensure compliance with Health, Quality, Safety and Environmental procedures in accordance with the Amey Management Systems

• The post holder will attend all training deemed appropriate
• Any other tasks deemed necessary commensurate with the grade

What are we looking for?

• HNC, HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering
• Member of the Institution of Lighting Professionals
• Charted Engineer or Incorporated Engineer working towards CE status
• ILP Lighting Diploma
• Full UK driving licence
• Conversant with lighting design software i.e. Lighting Reality and KeyLIGHTS
• Knowledge of AutoCad applications
• Good level of computer literacy in Microsoft Office
• Ability to produce reports and liaise effectively with clients
• Extensive knowledge of the operation and maintenance of large street lighting networks
• Extensive knowledge of street lighting products and services in particular the deployment of LED lighting and Central management systems
• A knowledge of street lighting asset management systems and their applications
• Experience in the management of street lighting contracts
• Comprehensive knowledge of British Standards relating to UK Street Lighting
• Application and promotion of energy reduction techniques
• Experience in production of Highway lighting designs in accordance with BS5489
• Experience in the production of cable network designs in accordance with BS7671
• Experience in the delivery of night time light measurements to ensure scheme compliance
• Experience of Local Government and HA design standards
• Experience implementing QA standards
• Must be conversant with relevant environmental legislation
• Self-motivated and pro-active in terms of delivering solutions
• Excellent communication skills (verbal/written) and be able to manage stakeholders at all levels
• Good all round project management knowledge

• IOSH working safely
• A professional attitude to work, resourceful and capable of working independently and as part of a team
