About the role/project:

An experienced professional Ergonomist required for Traffic Management on Thameslink. Based in London for a 6-month contract. with the option to extend. This is an opportunity to take a role in the delivery of a major control system project, overseeing and assuring the deliverables from the supplier.

Network Rail is currently engaged in a major system development that will radically change the way the railways are controlled and operated. An experienced professional Ergonomist is required to work closely with our chosen supplier during the delivery phase of this programme, overseeing and assuring the deliverables that are under production. They will also be assigned to interface with the initial customers of this product to ensure that their requirements are being addressed. This is an opportunity to take a major role in the delivery of a major control system project that recognises the importance of ergonomics to the success of the overall programme.

You will also be working closely with the Network Rail Ergonomics Team and a team of Ergonomists provided by the system supplier companies. The selected candidate will have professional status as an Ergonomist/psychologist and a strong track record in the application of ergonomics/human factors in the design and delivery of complex real-time systems.

What you will do:

  • You will play a key role in the integration and management of ergonomics activities in the development of a next-generation traffic management system
  • This will involve reviewing deliverables provided by the supplier's ergonomics team, interfacing with the Network Rail end customers for the technology and identifying and managing emergent risks
  • Be assigned to interface with the initial customers of the first implementations of this product to ensure that their requirements are being addressed. This is an opportunity to take a major role in the delivery of a major control system project that recognises the importance of ergonomics to the success of the overall programme.
  • You will also be working closely with the Network Rail Ergonomics Team and a team of Ergonomists provided by the system supplier companies.
  • This is a full-time post and you will be expected to be co-located with the project team to facilitate communications

Your experience will include:

The selected candidate will have professional status as an Ergonomist/psychologist and a strong track record in the application of ergonomics/human factors in the design and delivery of complex real-time systems.

With a minimum of an MSc (equivalent or better) in applied behavioural psychology/ergonomics and professional status as an ergonomist/psychologist, the successful person will have demonstrable experience of the practical application and leadership of ergonomics in major system development projects

You are required to be able to demonstrate an understanding and experience across the domain of relevant theory and methods within ergonomics, with specific experience in applying ergonomics within a system development lifecycle

The candidate will be able to demonstrate they have prior experience in the professional delivery of high quality ergonomics/human factors services.
