We are recruiting an experienced Signalling Manager to lead our Birmingham signalling team.

The Signalling Manager will be responsible for leading the team and ensuring that it is productive and that work carried out by the team meets organisational health and safety, welfare, security, environmental and quality requirements.

The Signalling Manager will also be responsible for ensuring that the designs undertaken by the team meet the requirements of the client’s scope and relevant client standards.

The Signalling Manager will, where appropriate, be required to undertake the role of Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) (Design) on specific projects.

Further responsibilities include;
  • Participate in the planning, programming and monitoring of resources to meet programme and budget requirements and targets
  • Produce resource forecasts for current projects and future prospects
  • Monitor the progress of works and ensure that the development, design, construction and testing requirements are met and effect remedial action when required
  • Ensure that the technical and safety standards are maintained in all aspects of design work in order that successful project implementation and future reliability is achieved
  • Perform duties as directed by Management in connection with Signalling design activities Discharge safety responsibilities in relation to CDM Regulations, Health and Safety legislation, Company procedures including development of the project Safety Plan
  • Provide functional support and guidance to the signalling team on all aspects of signalling design
  • Provide training and mentoring to signalling team
  • Evaluate the quality and technical accuracy of tenders and make recommendations to obtain the best available commercial award for the Company
  • Participate in the preparation of technical details, specifications and tenders for signalling projects
  • Commensurate with the project role, maintain a continuous communication with contractors and customers in the development and implementation of projects to ensure a uniformity of purpose and common targets
  • Undertake the role of CRE( Signalling Design)
  • Carry out independent checking reviews of signalling designs as required

To be successful in this role we're looking for Candidates with the following;

Experience:
  • Design management and production techniques
  • Broad experience of interlocking design and signalling scheme development
  • Signalling overrun risk assessments
  • CRE duties

Skills:
  • Strong team leadership and motivational skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent understanding of task, time and people management
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good commercial awareness
*Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications
  • Current, previous holder or capable of reinstating IRSE Licence for the categories of:-
  • Signalling Principles - 1.1.550 (was 1.1.150D), (including Schemes Designer – 1.1.150A)
  • Signalling Design Verifier – 1.1.160
  • Degree / HNC or equivalent in engineering or similar desirable
  • Chartered Engineer Status (or close to) desirable
  • A1 Assessor qualification
  • Member of the IRSE, IET or other recognised professional body
