As a System Safety Manager at HS2, you will be responsible for safety assessments and/or demonstration of interoperability for their phase in agreement with the Head of System Safety, Security, and Interoperability. This includes leading aspects of the risk assessments of operations, rail systems or rolling stock and/or supervising the Notified Body (NoBo) compliance for key HS2 systems
About the role
- Responsible for supporting the HS2 organisation to ensure compliance with the Railways (Interoperability) Regulations and the Common Safety Method regulation on Risk Assessment and Evaluation for the HS2 project.
- Undertake risk assessments for specific discipline areas, being able to self-sufficiently plan, run and write up risk workshops. Develop reports and be able to justify and explain results within the organisation
- Supporting the future operators’ compliance with the Railways and Other Guided Transport Systems (Safety) Regulations.
- The delivery of the HS2 project wide Hazard Record, analysing hazards, compliance evidence etc.
- Manage an interface to the AsBo/NoBo, supporting the overall demonstration of compliance for the railway.
- Developing and managing task instructions issued to the AsBo/NoBo and to develop material to support interoperability demonstration of the railway.
- Specify scope of work and tasks to be delivered under the system safety support contract.
- Supporting risk assessments for specific discipline areas, for example,
- Producing system definitions describing the element of the HS2 railway to be assessed.
- Identifying and organising suitable participants to attend workshops.
- Finding, reviewing, and presenting relevant information to be used as best practice into an HS2 Assessment (e.g., Railway Group Standards, Railway Industry Standards, Railway Safety Principles and Guidance etc.)
- Participating in and writing up HAZID / HAZOP workshops. Exporting relevant safety requirements onto the relevant contracts.
- Tracing technical evidence to ensure compliance with identified safety requirements.
About You:
- Experience of delivering evidence of system safety design within a safety critical environment, e.g., aviation, rail, maritime, oil/gas, nuclear or military applications.
- Management of multiple stakeholders, both internal and external
- Able to provide specialist technical support and leadership on discipline-specific scientific, technical, and engineering principles to project development / delivery teams but knowing when to seek further guidance from other Subject Matter Experts or others.
- Able to provide technical, commercial management and leadership skills to support project development / delivery teams, working under supervision of line manager (or delegate).
- Ability to communicate most discipline-specific technical ideas to colleagues, based largely on examples of application.
