T&C Energisations & Isolations Engineer in London, United Kingdom

Purpose of the Job

The T&C Energisations and Isolations Engineer’s role is to manage the T&C activities associated with Traction and Non-Traction Power assets to achieve declared Energisation MOHS dates. The scope of the T&C role will include the COS and ONW T&C activities, given that are the Rail System Integrator.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Manage, drive and develop the Energisation and Isolations aspects of planning and preparation for the Test and Commissioning management team, in relation to the following:
  • Ensuring that the OHLE, Traction Power and Non-Traction Power system providers have coordinated T&C Plans, Test Scenarios and Test Cases.
  • Ensuring that SRP attendance is provided for, inputting professionally to the event, as may be required. Also, ensuring that Asset Engineer LONOs are adequately prepared and supported for submission in a timely manner.
  • Working for the Dynamic Testing Manager, the T&C Isolations and Energisations Engineer will work with the T&C Co-ordination engineers and the planning functions to ensure that Systemwide and Station requirements for safe isolation and energisation is met for both non-traction and traction power.
  • Chair and attend meetings, as assigned by the Dynamic Testing Manager to ensure that the requirements for safe energisations / power-ons according to the MOHS programme are met; liaising with external parties, as may be required.
  • To participate in personal training and development, including the appraisal process, as may be required, receiving and acting upon appraisal and feedback on personal performance and the contribution to the T&C team.

Main Challenges of the Job

  • Managing the non-traction power, OHLE and traction power coordination and integration aspects for the COS T&C function, including managing the transitions for COS.
  • Overseeing the progressive implementation of the ‘T&C Central Operating Section Energisation Strategic Plan (a.k.a. “the Orange Paper”), thereby effectively managing applicable interfaces with stakeholders.
  • Ensuring the production of reliable and compelling reports on OHLE, Traction Power and Non-traction Power progress, for presentation to executive management.

Dimensions & Interfaces (Internal and External)

  • Reports to the Dynamic Testing Manager.
  • Works closely with all of the members of the T&C Team, communicating frequently with the CEG team, the Station Delivery Team, the Systemwide Delivery Team, key stakeholders and the supporting functions (such as Safety, Quality, Environmental, Planning, etc.).

Person Specification

  • Knowledge of rail industry traction power and overhead line equipment (OHLE) energised at 25 kV AC and its associated EMC requirements and environment.
  • Ability to effectively organise and manage within a project team in the context of a matrix organisation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of standard infrastructure project management tools, techniques and procedures including: Project Controls, Financial management, including standard office tools, records and configuration management.
  • Knowledge and experience in the production of OHLE planning and preparation for major capital scheme alterations, including renewals of 25 kV OHLE.
  • A good knowledge of GE/RT8000 is expected, as is knowledge of NR standards, including the modules of NR/L3/ELP/29979 (the Green Book).
  • Detailed knowledge of metro and mainline traction and non-traction power; as well as the associated integration, interface, EMC and ESJ Assurance requirements.

Role Specific Requirements

  • Electrical engineering degree qualified, experienced Chartered or Incorporated Engineer.
  • Strong reporting and communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience of railway infrastructure and station services, with an excellent understanding of the specialist language used within the rail sector for OHLE and traction power.
