Trainer / Assessor
Salary: C £26,000
Hours: 37.5 per week
Location: Birmingham
A flexible approach to working hours is required to meet business need. This may include occasional evening / weekend work, visiting employers’ premises and regular visits to the Doncaster site.
Job purpose
The purpose of the role is to provide an outstanding learner experience through teaching, training,
reviewing, and assessing learners and apprentices, enabling timely achievement.
The postholder will maximise apprenticeship completion across the range of engineering pathways
offered at NCATI ensuring apprentices are supported through their apprenticeship journey to
successful completion.
Reporting relationships
• The postholder reports to the Apprenticeship Manager
Accountabilities
• To be responsible for a case load of apprentices to see them through to timely achievement
• To assess apprentice competence within a college and work-based environment
• To undertake tripartite progress reviews with apprentices and line managers, providing high quality feedback and targets to enable apprentices to achieve their potential on their programmes
• To signpost learners and apprentices to additional support and services as necessary
• To assess, monitor and track apprentice’s progression using the College’s e-portfolio system and other tracking tools
• To maintain accurate and detailed learner records on apprentices
• To prepare, monitor and maintain reports of apprentice progression through their
apprenticeship journey
• To participate in the interviewing, enrolment/activation and induction of learners
• To provide teaching and learning whether in a classroom, a workshop, an employer’s location or other work environment.
• To ensure simulated learning environments are adequately set up for lessons and assessments
• To prepare assessment planning activities of apprentices, ensuring all aspects of the apprenticeship standard is met within a timely manner
• To identify and support the Maths and English (Level 2) needs of apprentices, ensuring levels of attainment are met within a timely manner
• To identify and support the End Point Assessment (EPA) needs of apprentices, meeting such within a timely manner.
• To build and foster effective working relationships with employers.
• To support and contribute to all relevant quality assurance procedures and the annual quality improvement cycle
• To support learners in their progression to either employment or other courses within the College or beyond
• To represent the College in recruitment activities and being able to offer information, advice and guidance to those looking to follow a career path in the rail, transport and infrastructure sectors.

Person Specification
Previous Experience
Essential
• Experience working in an assessor role
• Recent experience working within a rail/engineering/construction environment
• Teaching or training young people and adults
• Achieving targets
Desirable
• Experience delivering bespoke courses to a range of partners
• Experience of working on apprenticeship programmes
• Involvement in developing training solutions.
Qualifications
Essential
• Recognised vocational qualification at Level 3 or above in Rail, Engineering or Construction
• Assessor qualification
• GCSE English & Maths at C/4 grade or above (or equivalent)
• PTS
Desirable
• Teaching qualification or working towards a qualification

• Good communication skills (at all levels)

• Using own initiative
• Working within a team
• IT Literate – use of databases, Microsoft office.
• Enthusiasm and drive
