Training Specialist (operations)- ElectricalControl
Purpose of the Job
The Training Specialist is a professional subject matter expert responsible for planning, developing, delivering and evaluating Rail for London Infrastructure (RfLI) training programmes, to enable the mobilisation of a competent workforce in 2018 and ongoing maintenance of competence thereafter.
Principal Accountabilities
- Deliver and adapt training using a range of different interactive methods (including coaching & mentoring) to ensure the learner is at the centre of the learning process.
- Undertaking accurate, reliable and fair assessments and development of competence action plans to ensure learners meet required standards.
- Develop training & assessment (including: eLearning, classroom learning and simulations) to ensure both organisational and individual needs are met.
- Monitor technical compliance and continuous development of RfLI employees, assuring the maintenance and development of a high performing workforce.
- Identify training and development needs for the RfLI employees, in order to develop and maintain competency profiles for the affected job roles
- Work closely with and provide support to other RfLI employees, in order to meet the demands of the operating strategy
- Support the development of the RfLI throughout the staged opening of the Network, including the bringing into use of the Elizabeth Line ensuring safe & efficient operations. Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected in the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working to Target Zero principles.

Dimensions & Interfaces (both internal and external)
Key interfaces within the RfLI are the Training & Competency Manager and the Operations Department, to ensure all organisation needs are met when developing and delivering training. In addition, the post holder is expected to develop collaborative working relationships to make sure all training developed in line with what is being built. The post holder will develop and maintain interfaces with TfL training teams, to ensure all training is in line with TfL policy.
Person Specification Knowledge
- A competent railway electrical control operator, or equivalent
- Professional training & assessment qualifications (for example, certificate in the life long learning sector (CTTLS) or certificate in assessing vocational achievement (CAVA))
- Knowledge of how railway control rooms operate
- Knowledge railway related competencies, in particular railway operations
- Knowledge of procedures relating to the competence management of Safety Critical Work is desirable.
- Knowledge of railways or other regulated industries
