Ford and Stanley - The Rail Recruitment Experts are recruiting a Vehicle Dynamics Engineer who will become a rail industry leader in this specific area of rolling stock engineering.

The Opportunity

The role of Vehicle Dynamics Engineer is to act as the nominated expert in areas concerned with vehicle dynamics which include wheel rail interface, track forces, ride comfort, safety against derailment, gauging and pantograph to wire interface.

The majority of this work is focused on standards and their development in the UK and Europe.

Location: This position is based in London

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Provide an understanding of vehicle dynamics to ensure that the range of work in this field is technically satisfactory to internal and external stakeholders, including specialists in other fields.

• Provide input to European and international decision-making bodies, to ensure that the GB position is represented, communicated and incorporated.

• Communicate expertise effectively on matters concerning vehicle dynamics, to ensure that decisions can be reached and issues can be resolved within agreed timescales by technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Apply technical principles in the areas of wheel-rail interaction, track forces, ride comfort, safety against derailment, gauging, pantograph-to-wire interface.

• Interpreting results from static and dynamic tests to validate vehicle models.

• Possessing a good understanding of the mechanical interfaces between the different mechanical systems on rolling stock, and between rolling stock and infrastructure;

The Vehicle Dynamics Engineer will have significant experience in T&RS engineering and vehicle modelling and validation.

Candidates should be educated to Degree level in an engineering subject and be Chartered or working towards.
