GSM-R Network Management Engineer Job Requirements
Posts / Location Stoke-On-Trent temporary contracts
Hours; 24x7 12 hour night and day shift cover
Salary based on experience
Must be available to provide 24/7 12 hour night and day shift cover. To provide network management control of the Network Rail GSM-R network. Use OMC server interfaces, to bring under management the Kapsch (Nortel) GSM-R radio network, integrating them into the design configurations as required. The work also involves testing of alarm functionality.
Experience working within a network operations centre as a transmission engineer and be capable of providing demonstrable experiences of raising, progressing and closing out technically complex faults from a remote (to the fault) location
Must possess Microsoft Word, Excel, and Email skills, have excellent intra/inter personal skills, be capable of working alone or with a team under pressure.
Applicants need a good understanding of the following technologies, as a foundation;
GSM and ideally GSM-R
Antenna, splitter and feeder systems and faulting
Repeater systems and faulting ( Cable & Off Air)
Nortel/Kapsch BTS (S <phone number removed> ) architecture and faulting
Nortel/Kapsch BSC 3000 knowledge
Basic transmission knowledge
Knowledge / understanding of cell planning
Knowledge / Understanding of neighbouring / LAC planning
Experience in network monitoring using QATS
GSM (2G) system including MSC (and its various collection of sub-systems)
The role consists of the following
Monitor the GSM-R system, via the OMC server interfaces.
Identify system problems, and take responsibility for mobilising resource and directing staff to fault find down to system card level.
Undertake, under the direction of the System Design Authority, acceptance and regression testing of new software releases, patches, and associated hardware.
Co-ordinate the release of system elements, for service or planned maintenance.
Act as the focal point for all technical queries resulting from SIM card exchange, call routing, traffic analysis etc.
Manage all call group areas within signaller boundary areas for emergency calls.
Manage the processes necessary to address disaster recovery scenarios.
Initiate system disaster recovery actions.
Process faults on the Network (BSC, BTS Kapsch / Nortel network ), involving localisation, tasking, access permission, assistance/ co-operation, escalation, clearance, and feedback
Need to raise/ update/clear Trouble Tickets using Remedy, regarding observed or reported faults.
Monitor system utilisation, and recommend actions as appropriate.
Implement and control incident management facilities.
