Capita has a new job vacancy for a CDM Health & Safety Consultant to join our team in the West Midlands. You will be part of a focused team that provide construction health and safety services including Principle Design to our construction related clients across a few locations including Gloucester, Bristol, Birmingham and Cardiff. You can choose to be based at any of these locations and work from home when needed.

The construction health and safety team is an expanding group of technically skilled specialists offering safety advice, training, and technical solutions to the construction sector. We work across a multitude of areas such as commercial, healthcare, science, industry, energy and education. You will be working on a wide variety of projects, from new build social housing and office fit-outs through to large scale infrastructure projects.

About the role
You will be required to deliver construction H&S advice and to fulfil the role of CDM advisor / Principal Designer on several projects to help ensure compliance with the duties of the CDM Regulations.

Our services include strategic, tactical and operational aspects of our clients’ businesses, including carrying out site inspections and audits, writing up project progress reports and engaging directly with clients on a project basis. Your role will be as a Construction Health and Safety Consultant delivering these services with support from the senior team members.

This is a role for an experienced health and safety professional, who has worked within a Construction Consultancy or Main Contractor and is able to show a comprehensive understanding of CDM processes and regulations as this knowledge base will be vital when completing your duties.

We preferably would like to bring in a person with experience of acting as a Principle Designer but we are also happy to take on those looking to learn how to become one.

When you do travel, you will typically be travelling throughout the West Midlands. This travel will be covered by Capita and a car allowance/car can be offered if needed.

Responsibilities

  • Working as part of a team to deliver the Principal Designer duty and CDM advisor role for our clients.
  • Undertake site inspections and monitoring visits to determine health & safety compliance.
  • Attend project, design and other meetings, escalating issues as required by the project plan.
  • You will work to ensure output from projects is to a high standard.
  • Ability to ensure projects are completed efficiently to an agreed resource and commercial profile.
  • Writing communication involving reports, pre-construction Information and Health & Safety Files.
  • You will be acting as a key point of contact interacting with and maintaining the existing relationships with clients and contractors whilst developing new contacts.

Requirements

  • Qualified in a construction related field with a preference for a design related discipline.
  • Knowledge of the CDM regulations and understanding of the design process and the principles of prevention.
  • Appropriate experience of the design and construction processes.
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate or similar technical /professional qualification.
  • Membership or currently working through the programme of the Association for Project Safety or the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)
  • Current UK driving licence
  • You must be computer Literate as well as a comfortable communicator both in person and via writing as you will compose, proofread and check reports, emails and tenders.
