Occupational Hygienist / Occupational Hygiene Specialist

Location: Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow, London, Manchester, or York

Occupational Hygiene Specialist is required for her Majesty’s Office of Rail and Road. The ORR protects the interests of rail and road users by improving the safety, value, and performance of railways and roads today and for the future.

The successful applicant will become a dependable part of our specialist team/s supporting the delivery of inspection and investigation of UK rail and road infrastructure.

This post of Occupational Hygienist will work with a Lead Inspector for Occupational Health and will:

• Provide technical assistance and expert advice to regulatory colleagues to support inspection, investigation, and enforcement of legal requirements for control of occupational hygiene risks, with a particular focus on chemical and biological hazards
• Deliver internal technical training and support development of inspector competency in principles of occupational hygiene, including exposure monitoring, risk assessment, and control
• Support ORR colleagues in assessing the maturity of employers’ safety management systems for occupational hygiene risks using our RM3 model
• Secure and share intelligence, information, and advice on developments in occupational hygiene policy, research, and guidance with ORR colleagues, other government departments, and the wider rail industry
• use that intelligence to contribute to our development of strategic risk priorities and detailed work plans, including your own programme of inspections
• Complete appropriate training to enable you to appear as an independent specialist expert witness at tribunals, inquests, and court proceedings
