Safety Case Engineer in Saudi Arabia
Morson international is recruiting for a Civil Works JV Senior System Safety Engineer based in Riyadh on a large Metro project.
The contractor will be responsible for the design, construction, train cars, signalling, electrification and integration of Lines 1 and 2 of the new Metro system.
Line 1 will stretch from north to south across Riyadh, covering 24 miles (38km). It will include 22 stations and four transfer stations where it will connect with other new metro lines. Much of Line 1 will be underground.
In contrast, Line 2 will be built mostly on a raised strip in the median of the planned freeway. This line will run east to west and will extend more than 15.7 miles (25km) with 13 stations and three transfer stations.
The new lines will feature stations powered by renewable energy and fully automatic trains.
General Job Description
The purpose of the role is to support the System Safety Manager and the Civil Works JV (CWJV) Integration Team to ensure that System Safety Management requirements set by the BACS Consortium are effectively implemented in the CWJV and that robust System Safety justifications and technical assurance can be made for the Civil works, in support of the Project Safety Case.
Position Duties / Responsibilities
- Support the preparation of a System Safety Plan for the CWJV. Implement the Plan in accordance BACS Consortium requirements.
- Ensure that robust safety management is undertaken within the CWJV Project in accordance with the CWJV System Safety. In addition, ensure that the requirements of the JV's Plan are communicated to all CWJV subcontractors (who are designing the railway subsystems), CWJV staff who have a role in managing system safety and risk in the design of the operational railway.
- Support the specification and review of functions and characteristics of the operational railway identifying the system hazards and system assurance which will need to be addressed.
- Attending Design Centre HAZID sessions with CWJV Engineers and Designers in line with the Consortium level processes.
- In liaison with Siemens Transit Systems, CWJV Hub Engineering and subcontracted entities, support the identification of risk and measures including system safety analysis associated with the above HAZID and other safety risk assessments and ALARP justification.
- Support the preparation and implementation of system safety assurance documentation and requirements management processes.
- Support the flow down of system safety requirements along with the review of verification and validating information and data received from CWJV subcontracted entities.
- Providing inputs into the common project risk register, and participating in its regular review and during the life of the project.
- Providing advice as required on safety management systems and processes pertinent to railway operation.
- Support the CWJV System Safety Manager in review of system assurance documentation in order that the required safety performance can be verified.
- Assist the CWJV System Safety Manager with the review and acceptance of the CWJV Subsystem Safety Cases for the elements, products and systems being delivered by the CWJV subsystem designers, suppliers and contractors. The review and acceptance of the safety cases will take account of the safety argument and the safety evidence put forward incrementally, including supporting safety analyses and other supporting evidence/justifications.
- At a CWJV level support the Independent Safety Assessor's (ISA) review & coordinate the activities of and the resolution and closure of observations raised.
