System Safety Engineer - Riyadh Metro Project

Location - Saudi Arabia

Ongoing contract - 12 months plus

Salary - £90-95,000 per annum plus paid accommodation and travel

My client is part of the BACS consortium working on the Riyadh Metro project and they are currently looking for a Civils System Safety Engineer to join their team.

Position Responsibilities:

• Support the preparation of a System Safety Plan for the CWJV. Implement the Plan in accordance BACS Consortium requirements.
• Ensure that robust safety management is undertaken within the CWJV Project in accordance with the CWJV System Safety. In addition, ensure that the requirements of the JV's Plan are communicated to all CWJV subcontractors (who are designing the railway subsystems), CWJV staff who have a role in managing system safety and risk in the design of the operational railway.
• Support the specification and review of functions and characteristics of the operational railway identifying the system hazards and system assurance which will need to be addressed.
• Attending Design Centre HAZID sessions with CWJV Engineers and Designers in line with the Consortium level processes.
• In liaison with Siemens Transit Systems, CWJV Hub Engineering and subcontracted entities, support the identification of risk and measures including system safety analysis associated with the above HAZID and other safety risk assessments and ALARP justification.
• Support the preparation and implementation of system safety assurance documentation and requirements management processes.
• Support the flow down of system safety requirements along with the review of verification and validating information and data received from CWJV subcontracted entities.
• Providing inputs into the common project risk register, and participating in its regular review and during the life of the project.
• Providing advice as required on safety management systems and processes pertinent to railway operation.
• Support the CWJV System Safety Manager in review of system assurance documentation in order that the required safety performance can be verified.
• Assist the CWJV System Safety Manager with the review and acceptance of the CWJV Subsystem Safety Cases for the elements, products and systems being delivered by the CWJV subsystem designers, suppliers and contractors. The review and acceptance of the safety cases will take account of the safety argument and the safety evidence put forward incrementally, including supporting safety analyses and other supporting evidence/justifications.
• At a CWJV level support the Independent Safety Assessor's (ISA) review & coordinate the activities of and the resolution and closure of observations raised.

Position Skills

• The System Safety Engineer will have substantial experience in an engineering discipline including proven demonstrable experience in the preparation of Safety Cases or Safety Justifications (e.g. railway, aviation or nuclear).
• Proven experience in a safety management role with a focus on satisfying rail safety standards such as EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129 & EN62267.
• Minimum electrical / mechanical engineering (or equivalent) Bachelor's Degree.
• Chartered Engineer (desirable)
• Member of a recognized engineering institution
