Samuel Knight International are currently working with an international leader in design & planning consultancy for some of the worlds biggest infrastructure projects. The Rail team are currently based across global locations, and the UK will be the home of their next phase of growth - delivering on UK & European works.

Our client are currently recruiting for a Lead (Practice) Engineer to join their growing business in the United Kingdom, and form part of a company with global reach.

Our client help create major Rail infrastructure projects across the world. Through design, planning and supervisory works we have helped deliver new networks, major projects and solve major civil engineering prospects. With over 2500 staff and hundreds of employee partners, Samuel Knight International's client are an employee owned company who’s destiny is shaped within , and not by external shareholders.

In the coming years they plan to expand their business globally, designing critical infrastructure that makes the world work. Across Energy, Utilities, Transport and Water our client are leaders in expert design engineering and planning.

Our client have an existing work portfolio to deliver - including what some call the project of the decade which is getting underway in Europe. A major contract has already been awarded to our client.

In the RAIL division, their team is currently based in continental Europe, and their will be exponential growth in the UK Rail division to support the existing talent. This role is to lead a new engineering practice;

The Role

We are currently seeking a career driven, people focussed & highly skilled lead engineer to join lead our multi-disciplinary Rail engineering team. You will be responsible for designing, directing and executing high profile Rail projects here in the United Kingdom and across Europe, Asia and the Americas. Overseeing & delivering on critical works, while growing out the business.

The successful candidate will develop new engineering processes, be a fearless & confident colleague who helps to shape the future of the business. We are looking for talent, but we're also looking for someone who can produce ideas, solutions & direct this business.

You will be overseeing design works of planning into clearly buildable construction plans, demonstrating technical expertise and excellent communication attributes. You will be responsible for supporting other team members including technicians, junior engineers and planning engineers in delivering these works - while at the same time confidently dealing with senior stake holders including Directors and C-Suite colleagues.

The Position

We are seeking candidates at senior, lead, managing or principal status. This is a recruiting project to build a successful team of like minded talented candidates.

Experience & Requirements

Previous LDO, Management, Principal or Lead engineering experience within multi-disciplinary projects would be ideal. More specific focus candidates with backgrounds in EG; Track, Signalling, Civils, Electrification etc would also be great experience so long as it was in a prominent position within a business.

All candidates will be required to understand & utilise Railway construction processes within this area. An understanding of the Network Rail design GRIP processes is expected as this will facilitate UK and some international works, any experience drawn from other Railway projects outside of Network Rail would be recognised as advantageous.

Daily responsibilities

  • Design track alignment construction plans and coordinates.
  • Work on major projects & also be able to manage multiple smaller projects.
  • Competent reviewing of junior engineering designs & drafting.
  • Integrates and works well with peers in other disciplines, often as part of major project teams.
  • Support the development of peers & junior engineers.
  • Represent our client professionally and collaboratively to all customers.
  • Participate in engineering & management meetings regarding project progress
  • Participate in engineering & management meetings regards the overall development of our clients Rail business.

Practical requirements

  • Time served & years experience is relevant to your positon within the company. We expect candidates to have a relevant degree when applying for a graduate level position. More experienced engineers should have an appropriate amount of time in the sector.
  • Degree qualified in relevant engineering discipline.
  • Previous track design & alignment engineering experience.
