My client is a leading railway organisation in the Asia Pacific region looking to recruit a Lead Rolling Stock Mechanical Engineer for their office in Singapore. This position is part of the engineering team. The Lead Mechanical Engineer would be assessing the structure carbody concerns due to integration of the new equipment in the context of the refurbishment, weight management & unbalancing calculations, identification of corrosion in Al carbody, weld-health investigations, NDT & other testing of carbody weld & bogie welds, repairs of weak structure, corrosion repairs & repair actions for weak weld on carbody bogie, material selection and developing structural interfaces. The incumbent will need to interface with the Independent Safety Assessor (ISA) for carbody and bogie structure aspects and organize the rectification actions as recommended by them. Also to fully contribute to general mechanical engineering issues during refurbishment design & production.
Job Responsibilities
Ensure mechanical designs are developed with full compliance to Rly standards for carbody and other relevant safety standards.
Assess the correct application of EN 12663, UIC 566, UIC 615 and UIC 515 in the context of the carbody and bogie structure assessment.
Assess the structure design in term of Fire Barrier protection.
Review and approve the Mechanical Integration documentation which determine the design of the mechanical interface/fixing of the equipment with the carbody structure.
Produce relevant mechanical integration documentation (calculation notes, drawings,) weight management & unbalance calculations as required by the project.
In depth knowledge of Aluminum carbody structure design, critical areas, stress flow, 3D modeling and FEM, Fatigue analyses conducted for mechanical integration matters.
Identification of Aluminum carbody corrosion areas, NDTs & other testing, investigation of welds in carbody underframe and bogies, testing and repair actions and methods etc Develop action plan and organize repair action on identified weak areas of structure and bogies covering addition recommended of ISA or any party. The incumbent is expected to have relevant knowledge on Al carbody repairs & welding procedures along with Bogie weld investigations and repairs & post repair testing and preferably experience in handling such issues.
Undertake the development of carbody 3D model of existing metro cars with structural details and interfaces. Being refurbishment works, re-engineering on the structures, models & interfaces would be an important responsibility.
Preferred knowledge & experience in developing equipment & interior interfaces like seats, flooring, ceilings, ducts, lighting systems, air conditioning system, draught screens, gangway etc.
Select suitable material by having wide range of knowledge on the cost effective solution using the materials approved for being used in metro cars.
Review and approve the Mechanical Integration documentation to determine the design of the mechanical interface/fixing of the equipment with the carbody structure.
Support the Production team in terms of industrialization/methods for the mechanical integration of the new equipment.
Ensure that safety constraints is considered in design, standards, specification, procedures, and maintenance documents.
Qualifications
†Minimum 15 years†experience of managing relevant Engineering work packages in a rolling stock project.
†Have worked for a major rolling stock manufacturer.
†Experience and good understanding of welding standards applicable for rolling stock application specifically underframe mounted equipment.
†Mechanical Engineering Degree (Bs/Ms).
†First class English communicator; written and spoken.
