Job Title: Lead Surveyor
Location: South East - Kent, Anglia & London Region
Purpose of the Job

To carry out surveys from start to finish supporting the Operations Manager - Survey & Geotechnical whilst leading Surveyors in the execution of all topographical and railway surveys.

Key Accountabilities

  • Safety - Actively demonstrate support for the implementation of the Colas Rail Limited Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) strategy, associated actions and resulting initiatives.
  • Profitability - Provide cost effective support to the Engineering department by conducting surveys in the most efficient and timely manner.
  • Quality - Provide accurate survey results conforming to best practice and industry standards.
  • Respect - Treat people in a fair and consistent way. Consistently strive to understand client's needs and requirement.

More about The Role

Rail experience and knowledge is not essential, but confidence and experience in land survey techniques and the willingness to learn and master rail-specific measurement technology & working methods is. Knowledgeable in the use of Trimble total stations would be preferred, but we can convert you if need be!

Should be comfortable working under short-duration time pressures due to limited access to the rail infrastructure and in leading a small team of colleagues to achieve the best results for each shift. Work will predominantly be nights, including weekends, with regular overtime available, and with a high degree of autonomy, using own initiative and motivation to progress the survey, although full support & guidance will always be available.

Working locations are throughout the southern half of England; travelling to site and working away from home will form part of the role, with company vehicle provided.

The successful candidate will be expected to work towards holding at least COSS safety competency (once settled in the role) and CICES membership with training & coaching provided. The position will require obtaining and maintaining track safety competencies if not already held.
