Ford & Stanley – The Rail Recruitment Experts are recruiting a Systems Engineer who will be heavily involved in leading a key ETCS project within a rolling stock/freight train environment.

The Opportunity

As the Lead Engineer you will be involved in the management and technical interface between various parties and areas of the business which will need to integrate efficiently to ensure a smooth running of this project. The role provides someone who has proven experience of delivering rolling stock enhancement projects in the past and be used to working with on board train systems.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Customer Requirements Elicitation, Capture and Analysis
• System Requirements Elicitation and Specification
• System Design Analysis and Specification
• Product Requirements Specification
• Management of Interface Risk
• Technical Management of the Train Design Authority & internal and external Design teams to achieve coherent design solutions
• Ownership of all Technical Interfaces
• Product Design Analysis and Specification
• Integration of component subsystems into a single system
• Supervision of Configuration and continuous improvement of test rigs in support of system integration
• Analysing and advising on competing technical solutions
• Working within a Configuration Control system
• Providing estimations for system engineering activities
• Progress reporting
• The candidate will also be expected to maintain an appreciation of new technologies and their application to support ongoing deliveries

Essentials

• Educated to degree level (or equivalent experience) in an engineering, scientific or numerate discipline
• Experience in providing technical leadership in demanding safety critical environments
• Knowledge of the systems engineering life-cycle, cost awareness and awareness of processes involved in other engineering disciplines
• Experience of working to industry quality and safety standards
• A demonstrable broad experience of railway technologies and their application
• Understanding and practical experience of applying ETCS standards

Desirable

• Proven track record and experience of working within the rail sector
• Experience in mentoring engineers working in a safety critical development environment
• Able to contribute to continuous process improvement
