Fire Infrastructure Maintenance Engineer

Purpose of the Job

To assist the Infrastructure Maintenance Engineer (IME) to ensure delivery of the Asset Maintenance Stewardship Plan providing fire systems stewardship, asset life performance and optimisation.

Principal Accountabilities

Responsibility for asset documentation review, safety inspections, asset monitoring and maintenance ensuring that the new Elizabeth Line railway can be brought into service and be maintained safely, efficiently and effectively delivering defined performance requirements

Act as the technical maintenance specialist ensuring safety and reliability for Fire systems on the Elizabeth Line.

Ensure compliance to applicable fire standards and operational requirements ensuring these deliver a compliant, safe, operable and maintainable railway.

Review and comment on the quality, completeness and accuracy of Operation & Maintenance documentation and fire asset data.

Oversee development and implementation of fire support contracts to ensure that requirements are correctly specified, procured and delivered.

Develop and implement processes and procedures in both the surface and subsurface railway for fire systems to deliver a safe, operable and reliable railway.

Support the Infrastructure Maintenance Engineer (IME) in leading the inspection of safety critical assets / systems, including self-assurance checks, quality checks, and audits.

Establish and lead the strategic intervention regime and the management of maintenance engineering stewardship to enable the defined Elizabeth Line standards, processes, procedures and performance to be delivered.

Ensure that the company fully address the specification, planning, execution and quality of the maintenance engineering and safety management requirements. This is part of the asset management strategy and plan to deliver the required asset whole life, Reliability Availability Maintainability (RAM) and Remote Condition monitoring.

Person Specification

Solid experience as a Fire Engineer or Fire Maintenance Manager.

Expert knowledge in fire and associated smoke control systems, with substantial knowledge of legislation, related standards (Network Rail and / or LU) and their application in railway, subsurface and underground railway environments.

Knowledge of railway systems and related engineering disciplines (M&E, Civil, Track, OHLE, S&T engineering).

A sound knowledge of railway operational processes as they affect fire safety.

Appreciation of Reliability Based Maintenance and its application to fire systems.

Extensive experience of providing professional engineering support to significant value programmes / projects for a large, complex, safety focussed and regulated organisation(s), where there are multiple complex interfaces.

Ability to analyse complex data, draw conclusions, produce reports and make recommendations to senior management.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and to build effective working relationships with people at all levels across the organisation and externally.

Ability to influence people at all levels across the organisation and outside, including negotiating and successfully facilitating joint decision-making.

Ability to plan, implement and manage projects to deliver to time, budget and quality.

Ability to use MS Office based computer packages, e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel.
