THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
You’re the ideal Rolling Stock Maintenance Engineer if you have serviced and maintained electrical and diesel systems on heavy plant, vehicles or equipment and have used a range of electrical measurement tools such as voltmeters.
You’ll be a collaborative team member who can follow maintenance instructions and work to deadlines. A strong focus on safety is essential as is an aptitude for learning and the desire to develop your knowledge and skills.
People who are already doing hugely well in their new careers in rail come from backgrounds including the Forces (Navy, RAF or Army Engineers), manufacturing equipment maintenance, marine, aviation/aerospace and vehicle maintenance.
THE ROLE
As a Rolling Stock Maintenance Engineer, you will be working shifts in a team to deliver planned preventative maintenance on a range of systems on electrical or diesel trains. You’ll be using maintenance instructions to complete tasks and fault-finding to identify issues. Your aim will be to work together to meet safety and reliability targets enabling the trains to go into service as scheduled.
THE REQUIREMENTS
The ideal Rolling Stock Maintenance Engineer will hold a full apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in an engineering discipline. You will need to be comfortable working shifts and be able to pass a medical including hearing, eyesight, drugs and alcohol testing.

THE PACKAGE
You will receive a generous entry salary of £35,500 with incremental increases as you complete the stages of a comprehensive training programme. There’s plenty of overtime if you want it and you can expect a salary c£45,000 on promotion to a qualified rolling stock maintenance engineer.
