The Opportunity

We are recruiting for a maintenance and reliability engineer who is going to help define the maintenance strategy for a range of new fleet in operation across the UK. Because this is all new, the incumbent will be helping define a new maintenance regime and therefore be highly influential from day 1 on the performance of the new fleet. They will gain maximum exposure to the types of challenges a fleet of trains can throw up and be heavily involved in designing the solution.

Location (s): The position is based in Doncaster and there will be travel to various depots on a semi regular basis.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Establish and manage maintenance plans through the application of RCM principles and support the development of the CBM system
  • Take part and where necessary, facilitate RCM workshops
  • Assist in the development of maintenance plans and design justification files for all new projects to gain TSI compliance prior to entry into service operation
  • Undertake review of train system performance, previous design requirements and performance of the maintenance plan to yield targeted maintenance solutions for future builds
  • Working with the engineering teams; develop Technical base specifications for suppliers ensuring maintenance targets are incorporated into system design and supply contracts to support the LCC plan
  • Review LCC data files against performance and financial models identifying areas of risk to reliability, performance and the maintenance plan
  • Review Fault Tree Analysis, RCM audit reports, FRACAS and RCA reports to aid in the development of performance models and justified design changes for new projects through provision of an appropriate business case

The Candidate

The successful candidate will need to have a strong understanding of reliability and maintainability of rolling stock. This can have been gained either as a senior technical support engineer or as a reliability engineer. The important knowledge is about recognising performance issues, remote condition monitoring on online diagnostics for rolling stock.

Further to this, the candidate will also recognise that this is a white collar engineering position and will not be hands on in nature. They will be able to contribute to plan, recognise patterns, negotiate contracts, influence staff etc.

Education requirements are a minimum HND qualification although degree is preferred in either a mechanical or electrical discipline.

Knowledge of FRACAS and RCM is highly desirable.
