Business Manager - Contract in Birmingham, United Kingdom

We are currently dealing with a client organization working on the largest engineering project in the UK, a new high speed rail project. They are looking at recruiting a Business Manager working on a contract basis being based in the Birmingham office. Within the role you will have to manage budgets, liaise with different stakeholder, interface with procurement and commercial teams. Typical job duties of the Business Manager can include, but not limited to:
  • Work with Procurement & Commercial to support the management of various contracts
  • Support the business with managing the Directorate/Functional operating model (e.g. processes, policies, data), identifying where there enabling changes/updates may be required in relation to the broader Directorate operating model changes, and supporting leadership to implement these.
  • Own and manage Directorate reporting, working with colleagues from PMO and Project Controls to integrate reporting with the overall corporate planning and programme reporting cycle.
  • Supporting the Directorate to develop and collate the Directorate plan, based on leadership established strategic priorities, supporting the monitoring and tracking of Directorate performance from a financial, project and people perspective.
  • Supporting the Directorate and other support functions to track progress and report against various metrics, i.e. business plan.

Job Requirements
  • Strong commercial background
  • Understanding of project and programme management techniques and processes.
  • Knowledge of business processes, and how to effectively operate
  • Knowledge of Agile/Lean management techniques.
  • Knowledge of P6 and/or MS Office project management software.
  • Knowledge of effective governance frameworks and dimensions, preferably in a government or corporate organisation.
  • Knowledge of tracking key performance indicators and service level agreements.
  • Ability to work on multiple activities simultaneously and prioritise the most critical activities to achieve timely delivery.
