One of the worlds leading engineering consultancies seeks to employ a senior level systems engineering professional to lead the strategic development and growth of their new systems engineering department following a recent company restructure. This is a new position where you will be responsible for defining the teams strategy and service offering with the full support of the Managing Director and Board. The vision is to re-establish themselves as a key player in the market within in this field.
You will lead a strong established team of 35 Engineers who s expertise lie in Safety Engineering, Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM). Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Human Factors (HF). As well as leading this team of experts,you will also continually develop a strong continuous pipeline of opportunities accompanied with the delivery of a portfolio of projects.
The successful candidate will:
- Possess a strong track-record in systems engineering, having delivered large programmes of work in this field;
- Be expected to possess an expert understanding of the V-lifecycle and the various disciplines that systems engineering entails in a complex, safety critical environment;
- Be expected to grow market presence, extend the client base, widen the service offering and achieve strong financial performance;
Accountability / Key Responsibilities
- To build, manage and grow a successful systems engineering business within the UK
- To create, own and deliver a business plan for systems engineering;
- To develop the pipeline and order book for systems engineering;
- To act as Bid Director, Project Director and/or Project Manager for appropriate projects;
- To oversee the portfolio of projects in systems engineering such that it matches or exceeds approved margins;
- To negotiate and win contracts;
- To define and provide the resources required to deliver current projects and to meet forecasts;
- To routinely report on the performance of the systems engineering team;
- To identify potential new service areas, select leaders for new services, provide direction to the service leaders and help them to develop their offering;
- To lead and manage people whilst they are working within the systems engineering team;
Technical expertise & skills:
- A strong track-record in systems engineering in the rail sector, having delivered large programmes of work in this field;
- An expert understanding of the V-lifecycle and the various disciplines that systems engineering entails in a complex, safety critical environment;
- Proven success in client relationships and business management;
- Substantial experience of working in a professional services environment;
- A wide appreciation of all rail disciplines and competencies;
- Proven ability to manage and deliver projects on time and to budget;
- Proven experience of effective performance management;
- Ability to devise, develop and implement efficient and effective business processes;
