Role: Environmental Manager HS2 (Contract)
Location: Birmingham
Rate: £35/hour
Type: Contract
Duration: 6 months initially, very likely to extend
I am looking to place an Environmental Manager with a generalist background to work for an international engineering consultancy with excellent credentials, specifically covering their HS2 portfolio. You will be based primarily in the firms Midlands office and the HS2 offices in Snowhill Station, with occasional travel to the London offices as HS2 continues to develop. The firm tend to operate in 6-month blocks for contract roles. Due to the nature of the project, there is a good potential for an ongoing and lengthy posting.
Your role will involve preparation of the HS2 Volume 2 non-technical reports (the likely significant effects of HS2 on the environment within the 26 community forum areas along the Phase One route) and reviews of HS2 Volume 5 documentation (supplementary information, maps, appendices, etc). You will also act as a point of contact for environmental teams, liaising with ecologists, hydrologists, geologists, landscape architects, etc operating to resolve any queries the technical teams may have. Further, you will manage compliance with environmental regulations, escalating any issues of non-compliance between design/construction teams to the relevant body.
Ideally, you will hold Chartered Environmentalist (or similar) status, with professional membership of a relevant body like the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA). You will likely have an extensive career leading and managing Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) preferably within major infrastructure or construction, though specific rail experience is not essential.
Ideally, the firm are looking for someone with around 10 years in industry, although this is a rough guide and candidates with more or less experience are very welcome to apply or contact us for more information.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone within Environmentalism and Environmental Management to contribute to one of the largest infrastructure projects of our time and work alongside one of the highest-rated engineering firms in the world.
